Critic Reviews

Toft Audio ATB24

soundonsound.com

The Toft Audio ATB24 mixing console impresses with its versatile vintage-inspired design, boasting a musical four-band EQ and flexible routing options. Its build quality and sound, featuring warm and clear mic preamps, are commendable for the price. However, usability issues like hard-to-see button statuses and non-routable stereo FX returns slightly hinder its functionality. The console's inability to monitor aux sends and confusing manual diagrams are minor drawbacks in an otherwise strong offering. Overall, the ATB24 stands out as a robust choice for serious project studios, blending classic charm with modern flexibility.

"In the centre of the studio is my TOFT ATB32 mixer, I’m very happy with it. I love the sound, but the quality isn’t the best and you have to live with some noise and crackles. In the front you see my ATC100 monitors. They took my perspective of sound to another level," Sebastian says, in this article.

similar sound

All soundcrafts owe quite a bit to the Toft TL series opamp designs for trident like the 80b. A 400 series will typically have half the busses and lack dedicated the aux returns (there are exceptions) of an 80b or modern ATB but sounds quite similar, particularly the 4 band swept EQ section. A soundcraft will generally want the power supply beefed up and grounding worked out to supply the beef with studio grade noise performance as it was more intended for live and demo studio use as evidenced by the lack of direct outs on stock examples.
