Owner Insights

We analyzed real musician discussions from forums and Reddit to find what players love, question, and tweak about Soundcraft Signature 22MTK.

Features and functionality

  • The SM7B microphone needs significant gain, which the Soundcraft Signature 22MTK might struggle to provide without risking feedback.

    Source
  • The 22MTK allows for creating four mono headphone mixes, utilizing bus 1/2 for main headphone mix and bus 3/4 for monitor outputs.

    Source

Use cases and applications

  • The SM7B's low cut filter should be engaged to manage feedback effectively in a live rehearsal setting.

    Source

Mods and upgrades

  • Consider using a cloud lifter to boost the SM7B signal cleanly if the mixer's preamp isn't sufficient.

    Source

User experience

  • Using headphones instead of monitors can help mitigate feedback and click bleed when using the SM7B in a studio environment.

    Source
  • Owners report satisfaction with the 22MTK's performance both in live settings and studio recordings, even when compared to high-end gear like Apogee Symphony and RME UFX.

    Source

Setup and maintenance

  • Unity gain on the mic inputs is around the 9:30 position on the gain knob, not fully off.

    Source
  • Correct gain staging involves setting the gain just before feedback hits and then rolling it back slightly for optimal performance.

    Source

Comparisons

  • While the Tascam Model 24 offers direct-to-SD card recording without a computer, the Soundcraft is considered to have slightly better build quality.

    Source
  • The sE V7 mic, with its modern neodymium magnets, requires less gain and is better suited for live settings, reducing feedback risk and costing under $100.

Soundcraft Signature 22 MTK

soundonsound.com

The Soundcraft Signature 22 MTK is a robust, well-built analogue mixer infused with digital capabilities. Its standout features include Ghost preamps, Lexicon effects, and asymmetric EQ, all packed into a compact, attractive design. The multitrack USB interface is a highlight, offering seamless integration with DAWs for recording and playback, making it ideal for both live and studio settings. However, the lack of hardware inserts on channels and missing XLR outputs for aux/group sends are minor drawbacks. Overall, it offers excellent functionality and audio quality for its price, making it a great choice for versatile audio applications.

SoundCraft 22MTK 22-Channel USB Mixing Console Review - Audio Appraisal

audioappraisal.com

The Soundcraft Signature 22MTK shines as a versatile 22-channel USB mixing console, particularly for those who appreciate the tactile simplicity of analog with the added bonus of multi-track recording. It features high-quality 'Ghost' mic preamps and Lexicon effects, making it a reliable choice for both live and studio settings. Users enjoy its intuitive layout and hardware-based controls, but some minor drawbacks include the absence of stereo monitor outputs and limited recording resolution at 24/192. Despite these, it offers exceptional value for musicians and small studios aiming for high-quality recordings without digital complexity.

best audio interface for the money

I got this thing for $450. 16 high quality mic pres, 22 computer inputs, 22 channel mixer with daw tape returns per channel on buttons. it speaks for itself, Absolutely Outstanding. drivers never crash or anything like the motu 828 ones would. my daw never locks up from the driver like the scarlett would from the focusrite driver. the sound quality is unmatched at this price point and overall its just a badass piece of gear
