Features and functionality
-
AUX 4 is typically used as an internal send to the FX engine but can also be repurposed as a monitor output if not using internal FX.
Source -
AUX 4, like AUX 3, is post-fader only, meaning the channel fader position affects the AUX mix.
Source -
The MG16XU lacks a built-in amplifier, necessitating powered speakers or an external amp for sound output.
Source -
Wireless mic systems such as Shure's BLX series are an option but are significantly more expensive than wired alternatives.
Source -
The Group Out feature allows routing specific channels to separate outputs, useful for creating different audio zones in venues.
Source -
The mixer includes Pre and Post fader AUX sends, providing flexibility in managing what performers hear versus what the audience hears.
Source -
The MG16XU has two stereo group buses, 1-2 and 3-4, allowing for versatile routing options in complex audio setups.

Use cases and applications

If external reverb is used for vocals, AUX 4 can be reallocated for monitor output, providing flexibility in live sound setups.

Consider the cost and practicality of moving vocals to an external FX unit to free up AUX 4 for alternative uses.
Source -
The Yamaha MG16XU is suitable for karaoke with 4 mic inputs and 3 stereo inputs, accommodating multiple mics and an audio source.
Source -
Small venue operators use the MG16XU for karaoke, choirs, and public address systems, capitalizing on its versatility and multiple output options.

User experience
-
Owners note that using AUX 4 as a monitor out may require sacrificing FX send, impacting effects versatility.
Source -
Owners suggest Shure SM58 mics for karaoke due to their durability and ability to withstand accidental drops.
Source -
New users may find the terminology (e.g., "desk" for mixer) and functions (e.g., AUX sends) confusing, suggesting a learning curve for beginners.

The name of the mixer is clearly shown on screen in the video at 3:11 in the video
Luke Weiler of Positive Mental Trip uses a Yamaha MG XU mixer for live looping shows. He has also started to use the Yamaha MG 16XU on home studio recordings for more EQ, better mic preamps,(then the zoom R-24 offers on non phantom power channels)simple one knob compression for all channels before it even hits the zoom r-24 interface, more phantom power etc. etc. The Yamaha MG 16XU is an Analog mixer which has benefits for looping live and recording at home for song ideas to perfect them for the real studio, or for recording at home on a budget. Positive Mental Trip is known to have some songs on the album recorded, mixed, and mastered by Luke, and others done in top notch studios with producers and all the amazing mics and preamps and goods you can only get at pro studios. Positive Mental Trip has recorded at Applehead recording studio(Saugerties/Woodstock ny), blue sky recording studios(delmar NY), Loud and Conscious recording studios(Rosendale/Woodstock NY), and at PMT recording studios.
