Great rock'n'roll guitar

Very hot pickups, akin to DiMarzio Super Distortion. Sounds like a Les Paul on steroids.

This was my very first good guitar, I bought it second hand in the early 90s. With its late 70s styling, this was extremely out of fashion then, so it was ridicilously cheap. I didn't realise until much later that this is in fact a great guitar. But for my use, the pickups were a problem. These were made for pushing the front end of a non-master volume amp into overdrive, while I get all my dirt from pedals. So I recently swapped the monstrous stock ceramic magnets for vintage sized Alnico IVs. This completely transformed the guitar. The output is still on the hotter side, but the sound is much better for my use. Smooth, articulate and clear.

mine had super distrtions… my falcon had 'em too

Ah, maybe that's what they are. They certainly look and sound like it, but there is no DiMarzio stamp on the bottom. Some sources claim they're copies made by Gotoh.

could be... gotoh was making some pretty decent pickups at that time, but mainly they were doing more traditional PAF type models... or they could be maxons, maxon made some hot pickups for Ibanez with the super distortion cosmetic in the 70s and early 80s I couldn't find ay markings on mine

the heart signature model!

every time I play this I feel like Anne Wilson is cheating on Cameron Crowe with me. a MILFy axe. Very similar to my falcon but eck thru. I will probably dump the dimarzios for duncans like in my falcon but I was seeing a 'whole lotta humbucker' at bridge on this.

If you haven't changed the pickups already, here's a tip: I recently swapped the superfat ceramic magnets in my Eagle's pickups with standard-sized Alnico II (bridge) and Alnico III (neck). That cooled down the output a bit, and made the pickups more articulate, sweeter and less in-your-face. A cheaper option than changing the pickups, while keeping the cosmetics. They're still hot, but no longer way too hot.

I got rid of this one and kept my falcon.
