Owner Insights

We analyzed real musician discussions from forums and Reddit to find what players love, question, and tweak about Wollensak T-1500.

Setup and maintenance

  • The Wollensak T-1500 may have a "hot chassis" issue due to a failed "death capacitor," which can cause 120v shocks if plugged in incorrectly.

    Source
  • Using modern caps with higher voltage ratings can increase the circuit voltage slightly, impacting bias settings and requiring adjustments in tube applications.

    Source
  • For the C2 Sprague A119-9 cap, sticking with the 'as built' OEM spec (100uF) rather than the schematic's 20uF is recommended for better performance.

    Source

Mods and upgrades

  • A polarized plug or an external 1:1 isolation transformer can potentially prevent electric shocks by ensuring proper grounding and isolation.

    Source

Features and functionality

  • Non-conductive knobs are crucial for safety due to the risk of electric shock when the unit is plugged in "backwards."

    Source
  • In filtering applications, using capacitors with a voltage rating only slightly higher than needed prevents unwanted voltage increases due to noise spikes.

    Source

User experience

  • Owners highlight the risk of deadly voltage from failed components, recommending consultation with experts or replacement of the machine for safety.

    Source
  • Owners note that the voltage rating of capacitors significantly impacts tube circuits, potentially altering B+ voltage levels if not matched properly.

Gritty, filthy tube distortion

1/4" ins and outs! Heavy beast, but well worth it. Just don't lose the power cord (like I did). They're hard to find
