BB414 Review: I have been playing for 13 months now and have progressed... | Yamaha | Bass Guitars | Reviews @ Ultimate-Guitar.Com

ultimate-guitar.com

The Yamaha BB414 is a solid entry-level bass that shines in the rock and metal genres, delivering a powerful sound that suits classic bands like Black Sabbath and Iron Maiden. Its playability is commendable, and while the bridge pickup can be noisy, this is easily rectified with upgrades for those preferring a brighter tone. The bass is reliable for live playing and built with durable hardware, though the finish is prone to scratches. As a starter bass, it offers decent features for the price, but seasoned players may seek higher quality alternatives. Overall, it's a great choice for beginners or as a secondary instrument.

Great bass, but pickups could be better

Very good for the price. I replaced the P-unit with a custom made Alnico III pickup, slightly overwound, and the bridge unit with a DiMarzio Fat Strat (!), and that improved the sound immensely. No more boom or mud. Playability and feel is very good.
