Justin Lockey's Gear
Justin Lockey plays a Fender Telecaster Custom electric guitar in this video of Editors performing the song All Sparks live @ Sziget 2013. Lockey's lead guitar riff carries the song on this performance, which he achieves using his Fender amps (which you can see pretty clearly behind him 0:41 into the video).
You can get a pretty good look at the guitar at several places in the video, like 0:26. It is likely a vintage model, and my best guess on the finish is an aged Butterscotch Blonde. 2:40 shows you the pickup configuration of the Tele, which identifies it as a Tele Custom model. Throughout this song All Sparks, Justin keeps the pickup selector switch in the "up" position.
This photo, posted by Justin Lockey to Instagram, shows he uses the EHX XO Holy Grail Plus Variable Reverb Guitar Effects Pedal on his pedalboard. The pedal can be seen in the top right corner. The photo was posted January 2014.
Justin Lockey users the Boss DD-7 delay pedal (x2). The photo matches Lockey's Instagram photo, confirming this is indeed his pedal board.
The DD-7 pedals can be seen in the top row, second and third from the left (you can tell they are DD-7 as opposed to DD-2, 3, 5, or 6 based on the "Digital Delay" text being staggered on two lines, and the inputs and outputs being labeled "A" and "B").
Is the second pedal starting at the top left of the photo.
Used on the ''In Dream'' recording sessions. You can see the box next to the Justin's pedalboard.
This photo, posted by Justin Lockey to Instagram, shows he uses a Boss TR-2 Tremolo pedal on his pedalboard. The pedal can be found in the top left corner. The photo was posted January 2014.
The fourth pedal from the left in the bottom row of Justin Lockey's pedalboard is the EHX Nano Double Muff (it can be distinguished by the word "MUFF" written on it, as well as the two knobs). The photo was posted by Justin to Instagram on January 2014.
In this video of Editors performing the song "A Ton Of Love" at Reading Festival 2013, Justin Lockey can be seen playing a Fender American Vintage '65 Jazzmaster Electric Guitar in 3-Color Sunburst with a rosewood fingerboard. Around 0:55 offers a nice view of the guitar.
It´s not an "American Vintage 65" but a "Classic Player". The tailpiece of the Classic Player is closer to the bridge. In this video, you can see him playing a Classic Player.
In the official video of The Weight by Editors, at 0:57 a shot of a Sovtek Mig 60 can be seen in the studio where they recorded the album The Weight of Your Love. In the Editors Official Forum, when someone asks about that amp being used, the forum admin confirms:
Answer comes direct from the mouth of Justin Lockey!
"Yep we used it quite a lot...it was used in conjunction with a few other combinations of amps...
Sovtek & Fender Twin...
Sovtek & Marshall
Etc..."
This photo of Justin Lockey performing live with Editors shows his Fender amps. The one on the left is a Fender Twin Amp, as evidenced by the knob layout and the slant of the words that spell out the amp's name on the right side.
This photo is from Editors headling XFM's Winter Wonderland, and the original pic with the author's info is here.
This photo, posted by Justin Lockey to Instagram, shows he uses the EHX Micro POG on his pedalboard. The pedal can be found in the top row, second from the right. The photo was posted January 2014.
The first pedal on the left on the bottom row of Justin Lockey's pedalboard is the Boss CE-20 Chorus Ensemble. The photo was posted by Justin to Instagram on January 2014.
This photo, posted by Justin Lockey to Instagram, shows he uses the Pro Co RAT2 Distortion Pedal in his pedalboard. The pedal can be found in the bottom row, second from the right. The photo is dated January 2014.
The EarthQuaker Devices Ghost Echo Reverb pedal can be seen in the bottom row of Justin Lockey's pedal board, shown in this Instagram photo. It's the second pedal from the left, black & white pedal with a light on.
In this photo of Justin Lockey's pedalboard, the third pedal from the left in the bottom row is the Xotic RC Booster Clean Boost Guitar Effects Pedal. This photo matches the pedalboard layout on an Instagram photo Lockey shared, confirming it is indeed his.
Lockey uses the TU-3 as tuner, first right bottom pedal of his pedalboard (top left)
Used on the ''In Dream'' recording sessions. You can see the box next to the Justin's pedalboard.
In this screenshot from the YouTube video of Editors playing live at Southside Festival 2017, Justin Lockey can be seen playing a Custom 77 T-Sonic electric guitar. The YouTube video can be seen here. This guitar is assembled in France and comes in a dark purple finish. A closeup shot of the guitar can be seen at 38:07 into the video.
This Instagram photo posted by Justin Lockey shows he uses the Akai MPC1000. Some of the pads are labeled "MEAT," which could mean those pads trigger an effect for the Editors song "Eat Raw Meat = Blood Drool." Other pads are labeled "Brick Hit" and "Psyco." This photo was posted by Justin in Jan 2014.
In this photo of Justin Lockey playing with Tom Smith at Showcase Acustico @ Museo del 900, Milano (June 2014), Justin is playing a Taylor 910ce Acoustic-Electric cutaway guitar. The Mother-of-Pearl inlay design is consistent with Taylor 900 series acoustics from 2010 (according to the inlay guide from Taylor themselves), and the shape is distinctively a Dreadnought, which confirms it is the 910ce model. The abalone top trim also confirms it’s a 900 series acoustic.
In the video Editors – Live at Hurricane Festival 2024 (Full Set), Justin Lockey can be seen playing a Alusonic T-Special/P90 guitar throughout the set. A good look at it can be had at 6:27 into the video. His appears to have a clean mirror (or gray) finish, with a black pickguard. He also seems to have black tape covering the pickup selector switch.
