Luke Weiler of Positive Mental Trip used a Marshall 1960B when he recorded guitar tracks at applehead recording studios near Woodstock NY. Most of the electric guitar tracks luke’s VOX AC 15 was used but on Change Your Mind we hooked up 2 full 1/2 stacks of Marshall awesomeness and rocked those funky riffs with jazz colors. Luke continues to use Marshall cabs but has never used this specific marshall cab live.... yet.

Luke Weiler of Positive Mental Trip has played the TC Electronic Corona Chorus live and in the studio from 2016-2019. Toneprints are so much fun and the tri-chorus and the overall sound of this pedal just gives my guitar exactly what it needs. “I could put 2 of these on my board I love this chorus pedal so much... but then I’d have to sacrifice a different member of my “tight 12” live SKB board and I am not ready to do that’s...ever.” PMT Luke

Luke Weiler of Positive Mental Trip is definitely using a MOOG 12 stage phaser on many tracks on the 2019 album. The Positive Mental Trip Band page on Facebook showed pictures of 3 moogerfoogers that Luke is using in the studio on drum sounds. However on the extremely short almost punk-Rock style grooves of “stink bug zoo” you can def hear the sounds of the MOOG 12 stage Phaser on acoustic and electric guitars. No MOOG pedals at all were used in the studio on the 1st 2 PMT albums.

Luke Weiler of Positive Mental Trip utilizes the TC Electronic Gauss Echo Effects Pedal extensively for both drum and guitar sounds. This versatile and affordable pedal is featured prominently in various YouTube demos, including a video by PMTluke titled "STRYMON MOBIUS (JERRY Preset) VS. EQD Spatial Delivery V2 SHOOTOUT PART 6." Known for his open-minded approach to gear, Weiler often opts for pedals based on their sound quality rather than price, favoring the Gauss Echo even over more traditional choices like the Echoplex in studio settings.

Luke Weiler was known to use a Shure SM 57A live for vocals in late 2005 into early 2006. In early 2006 he let Laura (PMT flute player at the time) use the Beta 57A and Luke started using an SM 58 or Beta 58A live. He ended up giving the mic to Laura and was not seen with a Beta 57 A until recently when using a 5-7 mic recording rig in the studio. You can hear the Beta 57 A blended in with other condensor and dynamic mics on the “downtown funky stuff Malone V5” demo on bandcamp. “I love the sound of dynamic mics and Condensor mics used together in the studio and live. I could def see myself with a Beta 87A, and a Beta 57 or 58A as a 2 mic live vocal rig for future shows.”- PMT Luke

Luke Weiler of Positive Mental Trip is a huge fan of Big Muff style sounds on lead guitar or saturated rhythmic parts. Luke Weiler of Positive Mental Trip is a huge fan of overdrive pedals that double as preamps/cab sims. The Orange Getaway Driver can record direct right out of the cab sim if need be which can be very cool. I’ve already used it on a couple songs in the studio I’ve recorded the 1 st week I’ve had this pedal. It’s a great pedal for being an overdrive on any pedalboard as well. I’ve always thought of Orange gear as mainly for metal guitarists but the Getaway Driver has definitely changed my mind there.

Luke Weiler of Positive Mental Trip is known to use the Shure Beta 87A as well as the Blue Baby Bottle on vocals when recording at Loud and Conscious Studios in Woodstock NY. “I was really blown away by the Shure Beta 87A being such a high quality condensor that you could use live but also if the producer knows how to EQ the mic it can actually be a solid studio sound as well. To me sometimes in the studio it feels good to hold a mic and sing into it rather than having to sing into a pop filter held on a stand with a shockmount and all. I was blown away by the Beta 87A sounding as good as mics you can’t hold in your hand and that cost 2 to 3 times as much and can’t be used live.”

Like Weiler of Positive Mental Trip has used the Electro Voice ND 76 live on vocals on and off from 2011-2019. “The ND76 is a microphone that not all sound guys can dial in proper to my liking. If I feel like the sound guy can’t get the ND 76 sounding how I love it live, I’ll take out an SM57 or the EV cobalt which are mics every sound man has dialed in 1000 times. I prefer the ND76 but it doesn’t always work live. I’ve used it on a few of the tracks blended in with condensors on the new Album. I love the Mic so it’s hard to not try to use it, even though it is a mic most producers and vocalists would not dare to use in the studio.”

Luke Weiler of Positive Mental Trip has played a white Ibanez SR250 bass on all Positive Mental Trip studio recordings since “the duchess of funk” Alana Orr left the band in 2014. Luke had observed Alana and her style which he very much digged on “change your mind” (2012) and took a few lessons off her while she was part of PMT for those 2 years. Always enjoying playing bass as much as guitar and drums luke began recording his own basslines in 2015 and released “the black and white album” in 2017 which he played all basslines on. It is said he has played all bass lines on current demo versions soon to be polished album versions on the 2018-2019 “Love Never Dies” recording sessions.

Luke Weiler of Positive Mental Trip plays an Earthquakes Devices Rainbow Machine. “Honestly when I bought it I thought it was going to be 1000 sounds on the next few albums. At 1 st I struggled to find anything use-able but the chorus-Esque vibe of it on guitar. I was let down by this as I have many awesome chorus sounds in my chorus library/arsenal. However I do like it for eerie EBOW sounds and I have found use for it on vocals with the Radial VOCO LOCO. When I busted it out during a few recording sessions in Woodstock there were no objections and the tracks may be keepers. Originally though I struggled to figure it how I could use this pedal. Certain EQD pedals can be like that. You really have to go outside your box. The EQD Data Corrupter is the same way like that. Just extremely different with the fuzz and the oscillations but....you plug it and your like whoa... what can I do with this?! The challenge of it I think is what gets people into earthquaker Devices or completely turns them off. In neither here nor there with there extreme sounding pedals. I really enjoy the Spatial Delivery envelope Filter V2. Out of all the EQD pedals I’ve played that one is my favorite. Luke has the Rainbow Machine V1 and has no idea what the V2 is about. “One rainbow machine is enough rainbow machines for me man!” -PMT Luke

The 2 CAD mics were sold for some time by CAD as the “Joe Satriani Amp Mic Kit”. Luke planned to use this mic kit live and in the studio. However the CAD Trion 7000 was used more blended with the Sterling ST77 for studio vocal tracks. The CAD D189 became luke’s Choice for live vocals during the PMT touring 2008-2009 era. It is said the CAD TRION 7000 although not used on “the black and white album”(2017), will appear as one of the mics blended on vocals and will also combine with a Shure Beta 57 A to record amp sounds this year. Positive Mental Trip has been slowly but surely tracking for the “Love Never Dies”(studio album, there were a few demos with the album title circa 2007-2010) since 2018 and continues tracking in 2019. Luke Weiler of Positive Mental Trip began to take interest in Envelope Filter sounds as opposed to straight up Jimi Hendrix style wah pedals in 2014.(Luke played standard Cry Baby wah pedals 2006-2014) Playing percussion in an experimental reggae band EN KNEE GIVEN DAZE while playing percussion he would watch Gerry Skeletonez play with a vintage Q-Tron and an octave pedal. In a hotel room at the Rock N Roll Resort festival he would play with a Q Tron w/ a Boss octave pedal and knew he needed that in his life. In 2015 after DAZE and BOMBMOB(electro-dub act luke played percussion with on his PMT Hiatus) broke up Luke decided it was time to start playing Positive Mental Trip music again. There were not many PMT shows in 2015 but there began to be many Positive Mental Trip shows in 2016. By the end of 2016 Luke was recording and experimenting live and in the studio with 2 Envelope Filter pedals. The Source Audio Pro Poly Mod Filter and the BOSS AW-3 Dynamic Wah. Both digital Envelope Filter pedals that could be controlled by expression pedal if desired these pedals had loads of options. Luke has played the Source Audio Pro Poly Mod Filter on many Positive Mental Trip recordings but only twice live. He has 4 specific Envelope Wah filter presets programmed into it. Positive Mental Trip’s 2017 album “The Black and White Album” has a lot of digital Envelope Filter wah sounds coming from the Source Audio Pro Poly Mod Filter and a few from the BOSS AW-3. You can hear some Source Audio Pro Poly Mod Filter envelope Filter sounds on the new album “Love Never Dies” as well. The BOSS AW-3 has not been used on the new album. The MOOG MF 101 Low Pass Filter has been used more then any other Envelope Filter on the album. It has a very cool analog Envelope Filter vibe on guitar and bass. It is arguably the best analog Envelope Filter in existence. (Among the other legendary analog filter EHX Q-Tron, Mike Biegel MUTRON) So yes, Luke Weiler of Positive Mental Trip plays a Source Audio Pro Poly Mod Filter. A huge fan of the effect on lead guitar and rhythm guitar as well.
