Quick Hit: Way Huge Russian-Pickle Review - Premier Guitar

premierguitar.com

Way Huge's Russian-Pickle pedal offers a fresh take on the classic '90s Sovtek Big Muff, with a pronounced midrange bump that distinguishes it from its predecessors. This pedal is a boon for players who seek desert-rock grind and Gilmour-esque tones, offering a smooth, less-scooped sound that integrates well with other gain devices. While it misses the high-end sizzle of the original, its ability to mesh with other pedals makes it ideal for modern pedalboards. It's a thoughtfully designed, unique fuzz evolution, despite lacking some modern features like mid sweep. Overall, a solid choice for fuzz enthusiasts.

Ultimate fuzz, but with more definition than Big Muff

I am really into dirty, but sometimes things get even too dirty for me. This is where I was blown away with this lovely cat toy! It cuts through with definition that I don't have with the Big Muff and it fills sound, which is great for solos in a trio. The sustain you get with this is truly awesome-like Hendrix awesome!!

Good fuzz but expensive.

I like this pedal but I think I like the EHX one more. The EHX is half the price too. This one looks better to me though. Plus it has top mounted jacks which I like.

My favorite type of pedal is without a doubt Fuzz. I think you can tell a lot about when a person grew up by the kind of Fuzz they like. My favorite vintage Fuzz is a Sov Tek green civil war era big muff. I have two of them that I just treasure. Jeorge Tripps makes a new version of this pedal for Way Huge called a Russian Pickle, and that’s what I have been using lately.

Luke Weiler of Positive Mental Trip is a huge fan of Big Muff style sounds on lead guitar or saturated rhythmic parts. He has used many different distortions, overdrives, and fuzz pedals in the studio for the 2019 PMT album. There will definitely be some way huge Russian pickle guitar tracks layered into the 3rd PMT album for sure.
