Luke Weiler of Positive Mental Trip has been using a BLUE Baby Bottle on Recordings since 2007. On “the Bronco rides at Midnight you can hear the Baby Bottle condensor blended with the Sterling ST77. Condensor. At this time Luke did vocal tracks one at a time and layered them for thickness rather than doing one take with 5 mics and using splitters to get 2 tracks out of 1 mic with one take if desired. It definitely has a different sound the way the vocals are on “the black and white album” compared to the vocals from “change your Mind”.more
I simply love this mic; it pics up everything! It has a pretty neutral tone. Consequently, I've used it for recording both men and women. It's extremely versatile and cost effective!
The baby bottle is a solid state, side-address large diaphragm condenser. Cardioid pattern only. Though it has the german bottle thing going, the capsules is not removeable/changeable. This mic adds girth to every sound you put it in front of. I don't know if it has an output transformer, but maybe it does. I really like this microphone on whispery and croony singers. Its also a great about 2 feet from a bass amplifier. Hypes the low end just right while getting all the stringiness. Not great for much else. Not bad, but not great.
I traded mine to a pal for a marshall 1960 cab when I needed a spare. No regrets.
