Description

The JHS SuperBolt V2 is a versatile and dynamic overdrive pedal, designed to recreate the iconic tones of '60s-era Supro amps. This pedal offers more than just vintage rock tones, it’s a versatile tool that allows you to explore a wide range of sounds. By simply tweaking the Drive and Tone controls, you can easily transition from the gritty, cutting edge of classic rock to the smooth, mellow tones of Chicago blues.

The SuperBolt V2 goes beyond being a simple overdrive pedal. It also functions as an amplifier with its volume control acting similarly to that of old amplifiers, providing a tube rectifier-like sag as the Drive control is turned up. The pedal also internally converts 9V to 18V, offering a high level of headroom and a punchy output.

The JHS SuperBolt V2 also offers two footswitchable gain levels. By pairing it with the JHS Red Remote, you gain access to the pedal's higher-gain settings on the fly. This feature is like having two SuperBolts in a compact, pedalboard-friendly package. The LED changes from blue to red, indicating the status of the boost circuit.

Key Features:

  • Replicates the clear and gritty tones of '60s Supro tube amps
  • Drive knob functions like the volume controls on vintage amps
  • Increases tube rectifier-like sag as Drive control is turned up
  • Tone control ranges from warm and mellow to cutting and aggressive
  • Internally converts 9V to 18V for increased headroom and punchy output
  • Gain knob sweeps from near-clean to full-meltdown mode
  • Two footswitchable gain levels accessible with JHS Red Remote
  • LED changes from blue to red indicating the boost circuit status
  • True Bypass
  • Made in the USA
  • Note: No battery operation possible. Power supply via 9V power supply unit (not included in delivery)

Owner Insights

We analyzed real musician discussions from forums and Reddit to find what players love, question, and tweak about JHS SuperBolt V2.

Features and functionality

  • The gain switch increases both gain and volume, which can be overwhelming at higher levels, especially when used with high-powered amps like a Fender Twin.

    Source

Comparisons

  • Users note it emulates a cranked 1960s Supro amp, providing a raspy growl rather than a smooth overdrive, setting it apart from other overdrive pedals.

    Source
  • Stacks effectively with the JHS Kilt pedal, enhancing sound thickness, especially for electric guitar setups in church settings.

    Source
  • Compared to AMT B1, which is a Bogner Ecstasy style preamp, the SuperBolt is less suited for high-gain, chugging metal tones.

    Source

Use cases and applications

  • Successfully used on both guitar and bass, it remains a favorite for its unique tone, despite the loud volume output.

    Source
  • Its unique tone and aggressive output make it the most used pedal for some musicians, despite its tendency to be loud.

    Source
  • The SuperBolt, when paired with a Fender amp, is used for live metal performances, but it may not be ideal for chugging due to its overdrive characteristics.

    Source

Setup and maintenance

  • Some owners mention potential issues with jfet biasing trimmers requiring a DMM for proper rebiasing.

    Source

User experience

  • Players with hot P90 pickups report a gated sound when playing power chords, which doesn't occur with single coil guitars.

JHS Superbolt V2

guitarinteractivemagazine.com

The JHS SuperBolt V2 is a robust pedal offering a wide tonal range, from a clean boost to heavily distorted sounds reminiscent of classic Led Zeppelin. Noted for its high build quality and retro design, this pedal excels in versatility, making any amp sound vibrant and alive. However, it requires a 9V power supply, which might be a downside for those preferring battery options. Overall, it delivers on its promise of Supro-style tones, making it a worthy consideration for guitarists seeking vintage amp-like sound in a pedal form.

Impressive pedal ..Zepplin in a box

Love the Superbolt . It much more versatile than I thought . Sounds really good as a boost , being stacked or pkayed on it’s on. The OD / distortion is very in your face and does sound like your amp speaker is on the verge of exploding lol. This pedal simply love telecaster specially on the bridge pickup. Zepplin tone for days !

Nails the Zeppelin I sound as advertised

I wish the red remote function were for a db boost instead of a higher/lower gain setting, but other than that I love the sounds it makes!

I actually own a custom clone

For the price I got the clone for, it sounds like it so I'll put it this way. As a second stage drive or preamp, you can't go wrong.
