Software and compatibility

  • Traktor's built-in FX, when paired with the Xone K2, offer a seamless experience, especially for DJs using multiple laptops.

    Source
  • The Xone K2 works effectively with the Xone 96 for controlling Traktor effects as sends, with no latency issues compared to the Traktor Kontrol X1.

    Source

    Source
  • The Xone 96 offers silent VCF filter on/off switches and a Master Insert, enhancing sound control and effects management.

    Source
  • The Xone 96 can use the Send/Return system creatively, such as using Cue 2 for additional FX routing, enhancing versatility.

    Source

Mods and upgrades

  • Some owners customize the Xone 96 with a black faceplate from mcaudiosolutions for aesthetic preference.

    Source
  • Eventide H9 Max is praised for its flexibility and audio quality, considered an ultimate FX unit, though complex to set up initially.

    Source
  • Routing a spare master output back into a return channel can mitigate the cue volume dip for headphone mixing.

    Source

Use cases and applications

  • The Xone 96 is preferred for back-to-back mixing due to its dual independent cue sections.

    Source
  • Boss DD-7 is favored for heavier techno, but may not suit melodic or vocal-heavy tracks according to user experience.

    Source
  • The Xone 96 is well-suited for DJs mixing without speakers, allowing perfect level mixing and recording via USB without external noise.

    Source

User experience

  • Users note that the Xone 96 has better knob spacing and superior vinyl preamps, providing consistent gain for line and phono inputs.

    Source
  • Strymon Mobius, Timeline, and Big Sky are chosen over Eventide for a more hands-on approach to FX manipulation.

    Source
  • The RMX-1000 lacks a master dry/wet option, making it less ideal for send/return effects with the Xone 96 compared to using Pioneer mixers.

HANDS-ON: Allen & Heath Xone:96 production sample – DJWORX

djworx.com

The Allen & Heath Xone:96 is shaping up to be a powerful evolution of its predecessor, the Xone:92, boasting modern updates like a dual USB audio interface and improved filter functionality without the dreaded pops. Its sleek design and higher quality materials stand out, making it a visually appealing mixer. However, concerns over its operating temperature and some remaining quirks, such as AUX channel routing issues, suggest it may need further refinement before hitting the market. While it shows great promise, particularly for DJs seeking enhanced performance tools, potential buyers should remain cautious about its heat management in demanding environments. Overall, it's an exciting contender with a few hurdles to clear.

positive

Allen & Heath Xone:96 - Attack Magazine

attackmagazine.com

The Allen & Heath Xone:96 is a masterclass in DJ mixer design, retaining the rich sound and flexible routing that made its predecessor a favorite while introducing modern conveniences like USB audio connectivity. Its robust build and user-friendly features cater to seasoned DJs, ensuring a deep connection with the mixer. However, the exclusion of MIDI clock sync and digital audio connectivity feels like a missed opportunity for a unit in this price range. Despite these drawbacks, it remains a powerhouse for those who value quality and versatility, making it a worthwhile investment for serious DJs.

Allen & Heath Xone:96 review – ratemyrave

ratemyrave.com

The Allen & Heath Xone:96 is a formidable mixer that expertly fuses analog warmth with modern digital capabilities. Its enhanced connectivity, improved VCF filters, and custom faders make it a joy to use, particularly for vinyl enthusiasts and studio applications. However, DJs seeking onboard FX may find the Xone:96 somewhat lacking, as it leans towards a more traditional mixing experience. While it excels in sound quality and durability, those accustomed to a more feature-rich setup might feel it's missing some of the excitement found in competitors like the DJM-V10. Overall, it’s a solid choice for those who appreciate a straightforward, powerful mixer without the frills.

positive

macProVideo.com

macprovideo.com

The Allen & Heath XONE:96 dazzles with its robust build and impressive array of features, including dual USB ports and a sophisticated four-band EQ that allows for precise mixing. DJs will appreciate the smooth VCF filters and the innovative Crunch effect, enhancing both creativity and sound quality. However, newcomers may find the learning curve steep, particularly with the advanced EQ and fader settings. While not without its challenges, the XONE:96 stands out as a powerful mixer that meets the demands of modern DJs and live performers, promising to be a beloved staple in any setup.

Review: Allen & Heath Xone: 96

magneticmag.com

The Allen & Heath Xone:96 is a triumph, merging classic analog warmth with modern functionality. With a robust build and an impressive array of features, it caters to DJs and live setups alike, boasting dual headphone monitoring and a user-friendly layout. The upgraded phono preamps and accessible REC Out port enhance its practical appeal. However, the hefty price tag may deter some buyers. While the built-in sound card is a great addition, it may not be essential for all users. Nevertheless, this mixer excels in delivering a rich sound and seamless connectivity, making it a worthy investment for serious performers. Overall, it’s hard not to love this mixer if you're in the market for top-tier gear.
