Owner Insights

We analyzed real musician discussions from forums and Reddit to find what players love, question, and tweak about Allen & Heath Xone:92 6 Channel DJ Mixer.

Build quality

  • The Xone:92 is described as "undestroyable," especially the UK version (light grey). The black version has similar parts but is assembled in China.

    Source

Features and functionality

  • The 4-band EQ is praised for separating sub-bass from mid-bass, a rare feature on DJ mixers.

    Source
  • Activating/disengaging filters causes a noticeable pause in the master output; users suggest leaving filters engaged to avoid this.

    Source
  • The Xone:96 offers dual cue sections, which enhance back-to-back DJing, allowing two DJs to cue independently.

    Source
  • The Xone:96 includes a master FX loop, allowing for separation of channel and master effects, ideal for DJs using external FX boxes.

    Source
  • The Xone:92 has MIDI clock functionality, useful for syncing with external devices, contrary to some assumptions about its age and analog design.

    Source

User experience

  • The fader caps can rub and scratch the mixer top over time, and caps tend to come off easily.

    Source
  • It's been noted that the Xone:92's LFO modulates the filter effectively for techno, creating a "whomp whomp whomp" effect during multi-deck blends.

    Source
  • Users report lower gain levels on the Xone:92's phono preamps, requiring higher gain settings with quieter vinyl records compared to the PX5's hotter preamps.

    Source
  • Some owners find the PX5's effects underwhelming, especially reverb and delay, leading them to prefer external effects solutions.

    Source

Setup and maintenance

  • Clipping occurs when hitting the red on signal monitoring, unlike Pioneer mixers, which have extra headroom.

    Source

Comparisons

  • The Xone:96 has superior phono preamps compared to the 92, providing consistent volume output between line and phono sources.

    Source
  • Some users prefer the Xone:92 for its "hotter" outputs, which require less gain adjustment in large venue settings.

    Source
  • PX5's effects unit offers more routing options and subtlety compared to Pioneer mixers, though its selection of effects, such as multiple reverbs, may not suit all users.

    Source

Mods and upgrades

  • A custom black faceplate for the Xone:96 is available through mcaudiosolutions in Greece, offering an alternative to stickers for those who prefer a darker aesthetic.

    Source

Use cases and applications

  • For DJs relying on long, subtle blends in genres like techno, the Xone:92's 4-band EQ and dual filters are highly beneficial.

Best and most versatile analog mixer out there

Numerous in- and outputs. Especially the send / returns ( 2 sends on each channel ). Outputs have a lót of headroom. Hard not to fall in love with the 4 band EQ ( > any new mixer I would consider in the future must have a 4-band eq ). Anyone looking for a high quality mixer for their dj / small live PA setup: this one's it. Without a shadow of a doubt.

Greatest Mixer I've Ever Used

Very smooth mixing capabilities with the 4-band EQ. Crisp clear sound. Send and return feature is very much used by me, and the cue settings are amazing. Top quality mixer.

H

The best "modern" DJ Mixer.

Good build quality, a lot of I/O and superb Sound. More robust Fader- and Pot-Caps would be welcome.
