Description

The RS-240 analogue frequency Shifter Module by Analogue Systems

The Analogue Systems RS-240 is a Bode-style analogue frequency shifter module designed for modular synthesizer systems, faithfully recreating the classic circuitry originally developed by Harald Bode. Unlike pitch shifters, it shifts the entire frequency spectrum of an incoming signal by a fixed amount, enabling unique inharmonic and experimental effects. The module offers both linear and exponential frequency shifting, allowing everything from subtle detuning to extreme spectral transformations. It provides simultaneous upward and downward shifted outputs, which can be used independently or blended together for complex textures. With multiple CV inputs and a wide range of scaling options, it is highly versatile for modulation and sound design. Additionally, a built-in squelch (noise gate) helps reduce unwanted noise and artifacts during quieter passages.

Analogue Systems Synthesis Modules

soundonsound.com

The Analogue Systems RS-240, part of the RS420 Octave Controller, offers a convenient solution for tuning and octave selection, reminiscent of the Moog Oscillator Controller. It simplifies global transposition and pitch modulation, but the necessity of such a module highlights a missing feature in AS's own VCOs—octave switches. While the RS240 streamlines certain processes, its existence could be seen as a workaround rather than an innovation. Overall, it's a straightforward but somewhat redundant addition to the modular synth world, offering utility rather than revolutionary features.
