Apple iPad Air review 2024: a very good tablet, but not the iPad to buy - The Verge

theverge.com

The Apple iPad Air is a solid tablet but struggles to justify its position in Apple's lineup. While it offers a good balance of features and performance with the M2 chip and a better screen than the base iPad, it doesn’t quite match the capabilities of the iPad Pro. For most users, the cheaper 10th-gen iPad offers similar functionality at a lower price, making the Air seem like an awkward middle child. The relocated front camera is a welcome change, but the lack of significant upgrades elsewhere leaves it overshadowed by more capable or cost-effective alternatives. If you need a larger screen or extensive Apple Pencil use, it might be worth considering, but otherwise, the base iPad provides better value.

Very good for its era

I used this device about 10 years ago. It was pretty good for its time. Apple is pretty good at tablets.

iPad just wins.

The future seems limitless when you start downloading some of the well designed apps that are being released these days. I've been particularly blown away by the new dimension I've opened up by utilizing MIDI connectivity into my DAW (or better yet MX-1).

Aside from it being a super fun toy to surf the web and check emails, it can be a productive powerhouse for a wide variety of purposes. If you have room in your setup and wallet, there is hardly any need to compare to other tablets. The iPad Air 2 is the best one on the market to this date.

Side work

This iPad is my organizer, I use it for everything (calendars, reminders, notes, contacts) but the biggest thing is making my playlist on the go.

using the iPad Air with Liine Lemur for enhanced music control

I run the Liine Lemur app to control drum racks and other banks of parameters that aren't controlled by the APC.
