My favourite 80's guitar!
I love these things. Single pickup, killer neck. I've got a few of them now, in different colours as well as a couple I've made myself. JT6 Trem is actually pretty good, but I usually put Floyds on them. The neck is what really sets a Charvel apart from the competition. Not too thin, very fast, not too wide, just good. There's quite a bit of variance in necks from early 80's to now, including heel sizes. I always take the pickups out. I prefer the JB or the Dimarzio Super Distortion for these guys. Brings back that 80's vibe! I mostly play vintage or vintage reissue/style gear but the 80's is nearly vintage I suppose. ;)
Artist usage
Add artistIn the first paragraph of the ''PRE 1992'' section of River's Equipment it says, '' Rivers had a Charvel Stratocaster-style guitar, a "Model 2" that was plain white, but was repainted by Rivers in purple acrylic paint, including the headstock, which was originally black. According to a fan who is familiar with Charvel guitars, the Model 2 didn't have a pickguard, had a bolt-on neck, only had one humbucker, and had a Jackson made Floyd Rose copy for its bridge. This guitar was left over from Rivers's metal days and was only used reluctantly at this point. This guitar met its end during a Weezer practice sometime later, when it was smashed to pieces. The broken headstock visible inside the first album photograph of the garage is from that guitar. No pieces remain today as far as I know. ''
In this image, Max Cavalera can be seen playing a Charvel Model 2. This guitar belonged to lead guitarist Andreas Kisser, and is shown as early as 1989 and as late as 1996.
Roope Latvala shows the camera his guitar collection. Among them is his "Black Metal Guitar" as he calls it. The model is actually a Charvel Model 1.
Lars Johansson uses a Charvel Model 2 guitar, which is equipped with a Kahler bridge and only the bridge humbucker, as evidenced by a photo taken by Michael Sundström at the Sweden Rock Festival in 2005, available on Flickr.
