Description

The Fender Precision Bass PB-551 is a Japan-made model produced at the Fujigen factory in the mid-1980s as part of Fender’s domestic PB-series lineup. Unlike the export-oriented Fender Japan models, the PB-551 was primarily built for the Japanese market and is distinguished by its unique cosmetic and structural choices.

The bass typically features a metallic gold/pewter body finish, a single split-coil Precision pickup, a contoured rear control plate, and a black headstock with the PB-551 model logo — a design not seen on other Precision Bass variants. Built with high-quality Fujigen hardware and lightweight body woods such as basswood, the PB-551 delivers a classic, punchy Precision Bass sound while offering a more modern and distinctive Japanese aesthetic.

Today, the PB-551 is considered a rare and collectible MIJ Fender, appreciated for its unusual look, excellent craftsmanship, and limited production run.
