Reviews

Owner Insights

We analyzed real musician discussions from forums and Reddit to find what players love, question, and tweak about Furman M-8 Power Conditioner.

Features and functionality

  • The Furman M-8 primarily acts as a rack mount power strip with minimal surge protection and basic noise filtering through MOVs, lacking advanced power conditioning components.

    Source

Setup and maintenance

  • Replacing MOVs is recommended if the unit has experienced a significant power surge, as they degrade over time and use, impacting protective capabilities.

    Source

Mods and upgrades

  • Users suggest replacing MOVs to restore basic noise filtration and improve minimal surge protection, available from suppliers like Mouser or Digikey.

    Source

Use cases and applications

  • The M-8 may serve adequately as a basic power strip, but should not be relied upon for protecting expensive gear due to limited surge protection features.

    Source
  • When dealing with significant power surges, it's advised to install SPD types 1 and 2 at the electrical installation level, as the Furman M-8 is inadequate for such protection.

    Source
  • For more reliable surge protection, investing in a Surge-X device is recommended due to its patented surge suppression technology, which performs better than typical MOV-based systems.

    Source

Comparisons

  • Compared to typical $20 surge protectors, the M-8 offers minimal additional benefits without proper modifications for enhanced protection or noise filtering.

    Source
  • A user contrasted the Furman M-8 with the PL series, noting that the PL series offers non-sacrificial surge protection, making it a better choice for power conditioning.

    Source

User experience

  • One user's experience highlighted that the M-8's "Protection OK" light may be misleading, as it failed to protect equipment from a severe surge caused by a detached neutral line.

Great for what it is

The M-8 is solid and straight-forward. I would prefer the higher end Furman conditioners, but this is an inexpensive way to protect your rig
