Owner Insights

    Source
  • Buying a Catalina Maple with both a snare and a 10" tom is considered a notable purchase, adding to its attractiveness.

    Source

User experience

  • Owners find the Catalina Maple's build quality solid, retaining good sound even with stock heads, and recommend them if in decent condition.

    Source
  • Some owners find the included snare drum lacking in quality, suggesting it might be worth considering an upgrade.

    Source
  • Some owners favor the Catalina Maple's tone for hard rock, noting it may not cut through a mix as well as birch but delivers ample volume.

Build quality

  • The walnut finish on the Catalina Maple is a lacquer, not a plastic wrap, providing a genuine wood appearance.

    Source

Setup and maintenance

  • The first floor tom is notably difficult to tune, a common issue among owners.

    Source
  • Fresh EC2 drum heads are on the kit, a detail that enhances the sound quality and appeal of the purchase.

    Source

Comparisons

  • For users looking at alternatives, Yamaha Stage Customs offer birch shells, which can be easier to manage during recording.

    Source
  • The Tama Iron Cobra 200 is preferred over the PDP double bass pedal, suggesting better quality in user experience.

!!Awesome!!

In my years of playing drums I have played Pearl drums, but 5 years ago I wanted to get a new kit. When I was doing my research on what I wanted to be my sound, who makes a product that is made in the USA, and the most reputable. The one brand that I kept seeing on TV, music documentaries, and multiple artists I have either studied or looked at use Gretsch drums. I worked and saved for 4 years, and I finally got my seven piece Gretsch Catalina Maple kit. This kit has inspired my to play even more, the warm round tones just sing throughout the kit from the 8" tom all the way down to my 16" Floor tom. The wood snare that came with the kit has a beefy crack that just cuts through the sound, and the 22" bass drum has a gut busting boom that you can feel and hear. I could not be happier. I love this kit. Thank you Gretsch for making such a quality product.

Quality drum Set

The Gretsch Catalina Maple is an overall quality sounding drumset. As a jazz and rock drummer, i find that i am able to tune up for jazz, and back down on the low end for my rock playing. Gretsch has never ceased to impress me, and for a lower price range, it is a very good drum st indeed.

Great budget friendly kit!

It is very versatile and has a good sound for a budget friendly kit. Though it may not be a top of the line Gretsch kit, it has that original warm Gretsch tone that we all love!

In the YouTube video titled "I Finally Have A Real Drum Kit - Let's Set It Up (Unboxing & Vlog)" by Alex Melton, Alex sets up a Gretsch Catalina Maple drum kit. Alex explains that he switched back to an acoustic kit because he didn't want a "perfect" sound that he could achieve from a computer; rather, he sought something more raw and aligned with the sound he is pursuing. This video serves as proof that Alex Melton uses the Gretsch Catalina Maple kit.
