Modartt Pianoteq 6 review | MusicRadar

musicradar.com

Modartt's Pianoteq 6 is a standout in the realm of virtual pianos, impressively endorsed by Steinway & Sons. Its modelled approach offers a realistic, dynamic sound with minimal CPU load. The extensive tone-shaping capabilities provide a playground for customization, from acoustic to electric pianos. However, the Pro and Studio versions are costly, which might deter budget-conscious musicians. Overall, Pianoteq 6 is a stellar choice for those seeking a versatile and high-quality piano software, making it a worthy addition to any musician's toolbox.

Pianoteq 6 receives high praise for its enhanced physical modeling, offering a richer and warmer sound that surpasses its predecessor. Its compact size and minimal system requirements make it an attractive choice for users seeking a versatile virtual instrument. The new tuning section and VST3 compatibility add further appeal, while the Steinway & Sons endorsement bolsters its credibility. However, maxing out with all instrument packs is costly, and some users may miss new standout features. Overall, Pianoteq 6 is lauded as a superb, musically rewarding virtual instrument with unmatched expandability and playability.

Best piano VST currently available

I'm a classically trained pianist and it fits my needs very well. Feels like a real instrument to play, far more so than any sampled pianos. Also sounds better to my ears than any other sampled pianos. Obtaining the educational discount was a drawn-out process, but this is otherwise ideal. I chose the standard version with the Steinway Model D, C. Bechstein DG, and Steingraeber E-272 pianos.

One of the best sounding Piano Plugins!

Well what can I say? I have used the 2 previous verions of it, and these plugins keep getting better and better. The fact that I can calibrate my keyboard specifically to my keyboard and the way I play, makes it feel very playable and natural. I have long nightly headphone piano practice sessions with this plugin.

Extremely usable

I love the CPU efficiency of this plug-in and the customization options (all while still being plug-and-play; great for those who are only interested in the Steinway-approved stuff).

If you do choose to go down the sound designing rabbit hole, you can get some cool sounds going really quickly (e.g. super easy slider for changing the condition of the instrument; goes from mint on the left to worn on the right)...

The Best Acoustic Piano

In my opinion, Pianoteq is best acoustic piano software on the market. The instruments are physically modelled and sounds incredible! Every penny worth!

Eno's enthusiasm in regard to Pianoteq is stated on Modartt's website: «I bought Pianoteq 6 a couple of weeks ago. I think it is the most well-realised and intelligently constructed piece of music software I've ever had the pleasure of using. It is an absolute milestone. Aside from its incredible power as an emulator of pianos, the possibilities that unfold when you start to edit the models are astonishing. I've been lost in it since I bought it, and keep dragging friends into the studio to show them this miracle. The randomisation possibilities are so intelligently constructed and are a great help in understanding the enormous variety of possibilities this instrument offer. I don't think I've ever been so impressed by a piece of software design and I just wanted to thank the team who put this together.»
