the vox pickups (if Phantom guitar works replicated them correctly) are not built like a strat pickup though they look like them! Fender assembled 'bobbins' using rubber flat work at either end of 6 rod magnets and wound the coil directly around those magnets which yields the signature fender sound. Vox pickups were fenton weill type European coils like the Burns and Hofner pickups. They were wound around a dummy bobbin and then taped into an oval, fitted around the magnet(s) and sealed in the pickup covers. This yields a much different sound. In the old days every company had its own equipment and style of making coils for their pickups. Gibson favored plastic bobbins and Leesona winding machines, for instance. This is what makes all the different single coil pickups so different moreso than the magnets and wire gauge/type....
