Rega RP-1 record player | Stereophile.com

stereophile.com

The Rega RP-1 Turntable is a straightforward, cost-effective entry into vinyl playback, embodying simplicity with a well-made wood composite plinth and reliable rubber feet. The RP-1's phenolic resin platter and RB101 tonearm, along with an Ortofon OM 5E cartridge, offer commendable performance for its class. While the manual speed change and basic wiring might not appeal to everyone, these are minor drawbacks for a turntable that delivers solid sound quality and robust build at an attractive price point. A great choice for those seeking a no-frills, reliable record player.

Exclusive-The Rega RP1

tonepublications.com

The Rega RP1 Turntable delivers substantial improvements over its predecessor, the P1, offering great value for the budget-conscious vinyl enthusiast. With a simplified design and improved performance, it matches the more expensive P2 in many aspects. Setup is a breeze, making it perfect for newcomers. While there are minor setup adjustments needed for optimal sound, the RP1 provides a clean and natural listening experience. The phenolic resin platter performs admirably, rivaling the traditional glass option. Although some might argue over its merits compared to similarly priced alternatives, the RP1’s ease of use and sound quality make it an excellent starting point for anyone looking to explore the world of analog music.

Rega RP1 review | What Hi-Fi?

whathifi.com

The Rega RP1 Turntable is celebrated for delivering exceptional sound quality at its budget-friendly price point. With its straightforward design and ease of setup, it proves to be a top contender in its class. The RP1 features simple yet effective engineering, with a well-crafted main bearing, a simplified RB 101 arm, and an Ortofon OMB5 cartridge. While the cartridge may limit transparency slightly, it still offers a balanced and dynamic performance. The RP1 is noted for its rhythmic drive and ability to extract ample detail from records, establishing itself as a strong competitor against other budget turntables.

Rega RP1 review | TechRadar

techradar.com

Rega's RP1 turntable is a testament to the brand's commitment to quality and affordability, boasting excellent engineering and a straightforward setup. Its new phenolic resin platter and RB101 tonearm are standout features that enhance stability and sound quality. However, the turntable requires good isolation to perform at its best, and it struggles with minimizing pops and clicks on vinyl records. The entry-level cartridge is decent, but the arm's quality suggests it deserves an upgrade for improved dynamics and less fussiness with older records. Despite these caveats, the RP1's musicality and engaging performance make it a strong contender in the entry-level market, encouraging competitors to elevate their offerings.

Entry Level Turntable

A great entry level turntable for the budding audiophile. Great sound reproduction and well made. However, the manual speed changing from 33rpm to 45rpm will soon get tiring. Rega quote that it is manual to eliminate noise in the audio chain but believe me, it can get extremely frustrating having to remove the platter to change the belt sprocket. I found also that the belt quickly stretched and became loose, resulting in slipping and speed inconsistency. I would recommend the 24V motor upgrade and PSU, that means you don't have to manually change the belt, but at AUD$600, it's about the same price as the turntable was originally.
