Critic Reviews

Roland: The VT-3 Voice Transformer: A review of Roland's new hardware take on the classic vocoder sound | Tape Op Magazine | Longform candid interviews with music producers and audio engineers covering mixing, mastering, recording and music production.

tapeop.com

The Roland AIRA VT-3 Voice Transformer is a fun, affordable tool for vocal processing, especially in live settings. It delivers great sound with an easy-to-use interface, making it accessible for musicians of all levels. However, its simplicity limits its versatility, and it lacks certain features like the ability to process prerecorded tracks via USB or feed an external carrier signal, which are standard in traditional vocoders. While it shines with specific presets like Auto Pitch and Vocoder, its effects can feel clichéd and offer limited customization. Ultimately, it’s a solid entry-level option but falls short for those seeking a comprehensive vocoder solution.

Roland VT3 Voice Transformer

soundonsound.com

Roland's VT-3 Voice Transformer is a compact, intuitive tool for vocalists seeking instant transformation. Its straightforward design offers a variety of effects, from vocoder to gender shifts, making it ideal for performers and entertainers. The USB interface and smooth controls enhance its appeal, though the limited memory slots and underwhelming pitch-correction are drawbacks. Despite these, its affordable price and practical features make it a worthy successor to the VT-1, promising to delight vocalists and broadcasters alike.

Roland Aira VT-3 review | MusicRadar

musicradar.com

The Roland AIRA VT-3 offers a blend of intuitive controls and unique voice effects, making it a fun tool for vocal manipulation. Its well-built and portable design is complemented by a handy USB audio interface. However, the vocoder's lack of an external carrier input and autopitch's inability to handle out-of-tune voices are noticeable drawbacks. While it excels in transforming voices with its effects, it falls short in areas where competitors provide more robust options. Overall, the VT-3 is enjoyable but may not satisfy those seeking traditional vocoder functionalities.

Roland AIRA VT-3 Voice Transformer - Attack Magazine

attackmagazine.com

The Roland AIRA VT-3 Voice Transformer is a niche yet versatile tool perfect for creative sound manipulation. While it's not a traditional vocoder or precise pitch correction device, it's a fun, plug-and-play unit at an accessible price point. Users can choose from nine effect modes, although customization is limited. The VT-3 excels in live performance settings, offering a simple, efficient setup and the ability to save presets. While it may not suit every need, especially without editable pitch tracking, its potential for unique sound processing and affordability make it a compelling choice for musicians looking to experiment.

Yes!

Been looking for a good harmonizer ever since I heard the first Benestrophe album and I tried out a lot of software solutions (Pitchproof being the one that got a lot of thumbs ups) but on stage live and in my tracks recorded I tend to use the VT3 and I ever since I first laid my hands on it, it was the best vocal tool that I could grab on this price level. My only heartache is that it although it has a reverb slider, it does not have a built-in delay so I have to carry an extra pedal and cables and adapters just for a delay. Still this is so good that I cannot give a 4-star review just because of the lack of the delay effect. (Wish there was an update, though!)

Nice voice Transformer

Easy to operate and to get a result, the voice transformations this unit offers are basic but acceptable and can add some flavour to a mix . It does exactly what it says on the tin .

john_withers

Another Aria component

Again got this when I was into all things Aria and it is fun to fool around with but you really can't do anything really professional with it but as I said it can be fun to scare the dog with an robot voice now and then hehe. Probably the least useful Aria family machine for me.

str8sounds

Versatile and startling voice processor for vocals and drum machines.

I love this device and what it does to my voice, which has been the weakest part of my sound design, especially in live stage performances. In my Sony Acid 10 DAW, I can tweak and mess with pitch, reverb, etc., but in live shows, what can you do? This voice effects machine is easy to use, quick to dial in desired weirdness, and fun to use.

enorthby

Great pitch shifting. The rest is fluff.

Probably better off getting a reall FX processor, but it's good at quick pitch adjustment. In other words if you want to do some Beastie Boys intergalactic vocals then this is the box for you. Otherwise..ehhh...

dylan_pride

Decent for what it is

I use this as my audio interface, saving for something nicer but the reverb and vocoding effects sound really nice when paired with a decent dynamic mic, has phantom power!

jeffersonweber

Fun!

Super easy way to transform your voice. Easy to record to your DAW also.
