Silvertone Guitars 1423 Review - Premier Guitar

premierguitar.com

The Silvertone Jupiter Electric Guitar 1423 reissue offers a modern take on a vintage classic, with improved pickups and components that enhance playability and tonal versatility. While the guitar boasts a sleek design and solid build quality, the factory setup leaves much to be desired, with some fret buzz issues needing manual adjustment. The updated pickups provide a range of sounds, but the lack of some vintage elements might not satisfy purists. At a street price of $479, it’s a decent option for players seeking vintage-inspired aesthetics with modern reliability, though it may not capture the full nostalgia of the original.

Silvertone 1423 review | MusicRadar

musicradar.com

The Silvertone Jupiter Electric Guitar impresses as an affordable option for beginners or budget-conscious players, offering modern playability without straying too far from its retro roots. It wins points for its aesthetic appeal and solid performance, thanks to good pickups and a comfortable neck. However, purists might find fault with its deviation from the original specifications, and its tiny control knobs may take some getting used to. Overall, it’s a charming, approachable guitar that balances vintage vibes with contemporary functionality.

One of my main live guitars. Used for live performances with several projects.

Benny, why are you speaking in the 3rd person?

benny_keaton_rothschild

@jimmarchi1 i thought that's how these were done lol

jimmarchi1

actually you are supposed to be posting more of a review, describing likes and dislikes as well as a quick rundown of features and whether they are useful and if so how you make use of them.... in brief of course unless its something really unique, rare, etc... if you want to do that in the 3rd person, that's cool I guess, but when it says 'review' it definitely means review. I am glad to know you have an ac30 as your #1 amp. Good choice, but you didn't even say what year it is. Every series is a little different, some more than a little. That's the stuff we all geek out on and want to read about on EB. Welcome, by the way.

For his main guitar, Afie has been using a Silvertone Jupiter.

"Afie plays a 1960s Silvertone Jupiter and has for a while. At some point in time he seems to have gutted the thing in favor of just a neck position pickup and an output jack. No need for those pesky potentiometers and pickup selector to degrade the signal."

Guitarist and songwriter Afie Jurvanen has been making waves in the indie rock scene with his latest album, Bahamas is Afie. His blues inspired music is guitar heavy with tasteful melodies and fuzzy, quirky solos reminiscent of Annie Clark (St. Vincent). But that’s not all they have in common.

Both have an affinity for those Chicago made, formerly “cheap” catalog guitars bearing the name Silvertone and Harmony on the headstock. Afie plays a 1960s Silvertone Jupiter and has for a while. At some point in time he seems to have gutted the thing in favor of just a neck position pickup and an output jack. No need for those pesky potentiometers and pickup selector to degrade the signal.

The DeArmond gold foil (chrome argyle on the Silvertone versions) pickups on both Afie’s Jupiter and Annie’s Bobkat have been the subject of my own affections for some time now. They’re perfect for driving a good tube amp into that sweet spot or a fuzz pedal into a beautiful crazy mess. The cool cold war era styling is kitschy yet tasteful at the same time. -- from truevintageguitar.com
