Description
The 658 was introduced in early 1963, just as the 653 'Kentucky Blue' was exiting the stage. Gotta keep a cool paint job guitar in the catalog, so here comes the 658, ready to rock with its jet black good looks, snazzy block fret markers and cool racing stripes. The paint job covered the 3-ply laminate, so the plywood could look less than perfect, but the cool look and sturdy appointments to the guitar made (and make) it a desirable model. Block neck markers changed to dot markers in 1966, so use this aid when dating your 658.
Introduced: Spring/Summer 1963
Retired: Fall / Winter 1968

Phoebe Bridgers has been using a Silvertone Vintage 658 1960's Hollowbody Archtop during her live performances over the past year. According to a discussion on Reddit, she has modified the guitar by adding a gold foil-style pickup and has removed the original white pickguard, as seen in recent photos.
A photo of the Silvertone Vintage 658 1960's Hollowbody Archtop, without a pickguard, can be seen on Ella Feingold's gear page on her official website, confirming her use of this instrument. Link to gear page: https://feingoldmusic.com/gear
As from her official instagram post (quoted):
"It’s true, the Australian Music Vault has one of my first guitars AND my original song-book from when I was in high school (it is a school notebook with school emblem on the front!) with songs in it like Special Two and Katie, All For Believing and Sound Of White. My stuff is next to Paul Kelly’s notebook and a No Fixed Address Poster, pretty good company.."
