Steinberger Spirit XT-25 “Quilt Top” 5-String Bass Review - Bass Musician Magazine, The Face of Bass

bassmusicianmagazine.com

The Steinberger Spirit XT-25 5-String bass is a travel-friendly, versatile instrument that offers a fun playing experience. Its non-traditional body shape makes it easy to transport, and it provides unrestricted access to all 24 frets. Players will appreciate the wide variety of tones achievable through its bridge and neck pickups, making it suitable for genres from funk to rock. The bass’s lightweight build, combined with features like a folding leg for seated play, adds to its practicality. Steinberger Spirit XT-25 Standard review | Guitar World

guitarworld.com

The Steinberger Spirit XT-25 offers a budget-friendly entry into the iconic headless bass style, featuring a unique look and excellent sustain. Its travel-friendly design is a plus, but the bass presents ergonomic challenges that may require adjustment. While it delivers a warm, punchy tone, the neck-pickup volume pot lacks nuance, and the tuning system can be stiff. Quality issues suggest cost-cutting measures, so potential buyers should weigh these factors against its affordable price. A solid choice for those wanting a distinctive bass without breaking the bank, but not without compromises.

Massive quality control issues

Mine arrived with what I would probably call no setup at all. The action wasn't actually that low but the truss rod obviously need adjusting because every fret buzzed, there was just no way to get a clean sound on any fret. There were spots of rust on about 30% of the frets and a few almost entirely rusted frets. Scratches and chips to the hardware and gloss, some unpainted spots of wood too. The bridge is pretty cool with high ratio tuners on so i think when set up well it could keep tuning very well. Unfortunately the arm that extended from the body for a strap in the original design has been removed for the new productions leaving them quite unbalanced and not the most comfortable instrument. I think unfortunately theses are a bit of a cash grab by Gibson and shouldn't be associated with the desirable Steinbergers of the past.
