    Source

    Source
  • Tama's tom mounting systems are frequently highlighted as superior, contributing to easier setup and stability.

    Source
  • Walnut/Birch drums are praised for their dark, growly nature, which pairs well with single-ply heads like coated ambassadors over clear ambassadors.

  • Deeper tom sizes in Walnut/Birch configurations enhance the low end richness and mid-range presence, beneficial for rock and metal genres.

    Source

Other

  • Despite being based internationally, Tama's reputation often outweighs considerations like Pearl's potentially better U.S.-based customer service.

    Source

Mods and upgrades

  • Removing the tom mounting system from the bass drum leaves small, barely noticeable screw holes, offering an option for customization without significant aesthetic impact.

Tama Starclassic (Maple) review on thedrumninja.com

thedrumninja.com

The Tama Starclassic Maple drum kit is a top-tier choice for professional drummers, boasting exceptional tone and robust build quality with its thin maple shells and durable die-cast hoops. This 4-piece shell pack is perfect for both studio recording and live gigs, promising amazing sound and aesthetic appeal with various finish options. However, the high price tag, just under $4000, makes it a significant investment. The absence of a snare drum in the package may be a downside for some, but the quality and longevity of this kit justify the cost for many. Overall, it's a premium product that delivers outstanding performance across diverse musical settings.
