Pioneering but bland 90's effects processor.

I paid a little over £200 for this back in ...it must've been 1992. I'd not long got my first electric guitar and knew diddly zip about effects but this thing seemed to offer everything I could need in a tidy little package. It was ideal for this military man so often on the move. It did everything it was it was supposed to but it was somewhat complex and fiddly to program. Nevertheless, once set up, with it's pedal unit plugged in it worked well enough and it still does today!

Its style of effect processing harks back to the eighties sound aesthetic rather than the more back to basics approach of 90's. It is effective enough at what it does and sold well but critics were not impressed, perhaps because of the incredible hype it was marketed with. It apparently delivers a hybrid of analog distortion and compression alongside a plethora of digital effects.

Alas, I gave up and sold my first guitar and this unit sat forgotten in a cupboard for the next 25 years 'til I took up the guitar again just last year.

Putting this review together has given me cause to dust it off for a test drive. It's better than I remembered and perfectly adequate for my modest home setup. I can't imagine it would shine through a grown up amp and very much doubt this 90's tech throwback compares well with current devices. However it got me by back in the day.

A good summary and history of 90's Zoom effects products can be found here: https://planetbotch.blogspot.com/2015/12/classic-zoom-guitar-and-studio-effects.html

I dunno, Zoom's cheaper multi-effects today still sound quite similar! That PlanetBotch site is great for middle-aged musos...he's got a great memory for what it was like to be be 19 in 1992...brings it all back! Everything was so expensive! BOSS pedals cost the same as they do now, i.e loads more when you account for inflation...
