Carl Cox on DJing with Traktor: "...there's so much in it that you can do to create. And now with the X1s you're able to get to all of those beautiful effects, which I think is amazing."
“I use Native Instruments’ Traktor with my MacBook Pro. To control all of this I use a piece of kit called Maschine, which is also from Native Instruments and can be used in two ways - as a sequencer to access drums samples to use live when DJing or as a Midi controller, which is how I use it."
“I can control all four decks on Traktor using Maschine. And when I use this set-up I have the ability to control whatever effects I want to use - delays, filters, flange, whatever, it’s all available to mess around with.”
“I use Maschine to manipulate everything that is inside Traktor - the tunes, the effects, etc. With Maschine I can make a two-bar loop on track A, move on to track B, play the actual record, then add a bassline over it on track C. I can introduce another element on track D, adding delays, effects, changing the whole sound using the controller. Before you know it, you’re creating a whole new remix of a track. It really pushes you to be more creative and there’s a lot more performance involved.”

Throughout this video (and starting at 00:51), Carl Cok talks about his first experience and use of the Native Instruments Traktor Kontrol S8 Controller:
"The key or secret to what I do is that I love it. I have a passion. I live and breath it. I share my music with people. It doesn't have to be hardcore, it doesn't have to be techno, it doesn't have to be jungle or anything. It just has to be good music. And for me, that's all I need to give to people, as far as I'm concerned.
I do feel that I play differently because of the technology because I've always been involved in what happens next. I know I can mix two records together very well, that's what I grew up doing. I want to know what I can create outside of that box. I want to know what I can do today, how far I can push the elements of being a creative DJ.
From the first time I saw the unit and the first time I saw what could be done with it I was already in. My setup now, with the S8, is I still have two players at least, and two players internal, so I actually have the best of both worlds. I can still stop/start, spin back, cut... I still want to work. I still want to be sweating. I still want to be riding the groove on the seat of my pants. That's the thing that makes me who I am. I need to be challenged still. One of the the things that got me inspired by the S8 is that first and foremost, everything was integral with the mixer. Now it's just one unit to do one thing and for me, that's brilliant because I can just concentrate on exactly what I need to do and how I need to do it. And instead of looking at the computer, I can look at the desk real quick, find what I need, and make that work. And for me, that's really a great day.
My favorite feature is definitely the remix. I think the remix is really amazing. That really gets into another funky realm of what could be created as a DJ. You can actually produce something right now, live, in front of an audience. These things are enabling you to create the next generation of sound."

Carl Cox talking about why Ableton is his DAW of choice for producing:
"I’m making music on the move - I'm on the move all the time, as you can imagine. So I’m using Ableton Live to basically make music when I’m sat on a plane, or wherever, really. I’ll be sat in a hotel room on my own and have these little ideas in my head. Ableton gives me that freedom to make music when the mood takes me. It’s definitely the program to use, because you can create basslines and chord structures, just from the QWERTY keys."
"So, for me, that is quite cool as you don't need an external keyboard to play synths and that. A high-powered Apple Mac computer and Ableton Live is a match made in heaven for me. I just put the headphones in and rock the house."
