Grimes uses the Roland SP-404SX in the live video performance for KEXP 90.3 FM.

When talking about her album visions Grimes says "Embarrassingly, I recorded the entire album on Garageband."

Grimes explains on her Tumblr blog:

"You will probably use a dynamic microphone - which is also easy to use live, so its a good purchase. I would suggest an SM58 or SM58 beta. They are cheap and nearly indestructible."

From her instagram: "Just got 2 super interesting Mics the left is what Taylor recorded red on and for 500 bucks that's actually a steal for a beautiful tube mix it sounds amazing (avantone cv12) the second is an insane binaural mic I'm about to test it i think it's gonna be wild -- ps don't stress re: still in studio -- I'm on the finishing touches like vocals hence mics"

In this live video performance for Seattle radio station KEXP 90.3 FM, Grimes can be seen playing the Roland Juno G synthesizer.

"the best program (in my opinion) is ableton live," says Grimes, in this Tumblr post.

In her live performance of Genesis, for radio station KEXP 90.3, Grimes can be seen using the Line 6 M9 Stompbox Modeler.

Grimes played a rough looking Casio CTK-691 (previously mistaken as an Yamaha synth by many fans) during 2010. She replaced it later with Roland Juno-D and after that with a Roland Juno-G. In this report from Pitchfork it is noted that Grimes had gear stolen after a show, including a Mackie 802-VLZ3 Mixer.

In a tumblr post describing her music process and equipment, Grimes shows a Tascam US-144 USB 2.0 as her audio interface.

Grimes can be found using the Mackie 802VLZ4 8-channel Soundboard Mixing Console Mixer, in her live musical performance on KEXP, of her song, "Be a Body", on 2/20/12.

In a Future Music interview (issue 298), Grimes discusses several VSTs and plugins she used in Ableton while making Art Angels, including iZotope’s Nectar: “I used iZotope Nectar on a couple of vocal tracks too, but it crashes a lot.” It’s not clear which Nectar release she’s referring to, but Nectar 2 seems probable, since it was released during the same period Grimes was recording Art Angels.

Grimes is seen with this item, on every of her ArtAngels shows, her back up vocalist, guitarist, and drummer uses this. In Flesh without blood and Venus fly Grimes is seen playing along with Hana on the pad.

During the "Art angels" tour, Grimes plays a red Squier Stratocaster Rosewood fretboard.
