"I'm bewildered it's taken manufactures so long to catch on to the control voltage craze. Now that we have there are a proliferation of exciting new instruments and synths, for bang for buck you can get a Beatstep Pro and stop looking. This is the most feature rich, high end step and gate sequencer in a small format, affordable (and substantial) package I've ever seen. I want about 20 of these!" – BT via Arturiamore
"The first I noticed about the Beatstep Pro was the build quality, super solid and the action of the knobs and the touch pads are great, gave me confidence that I can take this in the road every weekend and it will survive the savage airport luggage guys throwing my stuff around. I use it to control and sequence my modular synthesisers. In use it was so quick to get a groove down and also a melody that complimented the groove because it so easy to flick through the different sequencer sections. The swing is really nice and jacking and the random function is great to add a some evolving hits into a drum sequence to make a change and less static beat. The connectivity is amazing too which makes it as useful in the studio as it is in a live setting ! In a live setting having the options to sync via midi, CV or even internally is a great safe guard if a piece of vital clocking equipment breaks and goes down while on the road. Overall a brilliant sequencer to jam with but also to go really deep with the sequencing in the studio!" - Blawan via Arturiamore
"The BeatStep Pro helped me control all my old analog gear from one central location. It was really fun to control all the instruments in new ways giving life to some old stuff I had stopped using. It's really intuitive and you don't really need the instructions to get going. Nice work." via Arturiamore
"It's still new to me but is excellent, especially for driving the modular. I don't have any sequencer modules so this serves the purpose brilliantly, and it is a perfect fit for my live show too, doubling as a general MIDI controller." Very good sequencer. I use it as a standalone sequencer to sequence my modular synth. Very easy to use and to switch patterns. Very stable for midi as well as gate and CV's.
Versatile, flexible, dynamic, fun, future proof. For my new and long term act, I started with this as the brains of my studio and live operations, knowing it will anchor and play with just about anything. Still figuring out a custom, DIY sound module box which I'll develop on Linux or Raspberry Pi, for use of plugins and digital instruments without a computer. And researching the modular synth gear to accentuate my personal sound.
This controller can send out three sequences, one to a drum and two to synth voices. It is very versatile and deep and I still need to do some more reading and experimenting with it to get the best out of it! For example, took weeks of research and ordering special midi cords to get it to address my Korg Volca Beats properly! But it did finally work. I am still fairly new to this step sequencer way of making my songs but I hope to continue to improve. The hardware is very robust and it is feature packed and smarter people than men really love it but my Novation SL MKIII keyboard with its 8 built in step sequencer may reduce my need to totally figure this unit out but I still really want to master it! hehe
