Alesis QS6.2 & QS8.2

soundonsound.com

The Alesis QS8.2 struggles to keep pace with modern synths, presenting dated technology wrapped in minimal upgrades. While it boasts improved 24-bit D-A converters and decent effects, its reliance on obsolete PCMCIA storage limits its sample capabilities and creates frustrations in user experience. The synth's architecture feels stagnant, with a paltry 16MB sample ROM that offers underwhelming sound quality for the price. Despite its potential for user-sampling, the frustratingly complex interface and lack of USB connectivity make it a tough sell in today's market. What could have been a standout instrument is overshadowed by its shortcomings and missed opportunities.
