Features and functionality

  • The Behringer Tube Ultragain MIC100 lacks a power-off switch, requiring users to unplug it manually after each use.

    Source
  • The MIC100's starved plate design limits its ability to produce pleasing distortion, making it unsuitable for achieving desired vocal distortion effects.

    Source

    Source

User experience

  • Owners commonly remove the power cable after use despite finding it inconvenient, highlighting a design oversight.

    Source
  • Some owners report the Behringer Tube Ultragain MIC100 adds significant static to the signal, even when used with clean power and proper cable management.

    Source

Use cases and applications

    Source
  • The MIC100 is not ideal for live scenarios if seeking controlled distortion without feedback, as it may introduce undesirable harshness.

    Source
  • Unknown Mortal Orchestra's vocal sound might be better achieved by mic-ing an amp rather than relying solely on the MIC100 for distortion.

    Source

Software and compatibility

  • The Lexicon Omega mixer is identified as potentially problematic, causing signal quality issues when used with the MIC100 and ribbon mics.

Critic Reviews

Behringer MIC100

soundonsound.com

The BEHRINGER Tube Ultragain MIC100 punches above its weight, delivering a surprisingly clean and lively sound at a budget-friendly price. While its tube circuitry adds warmth without sounding forced, the built-in limiter provides a smooth safety net, albeit without an indicator LED. Ideal for project studios needing a cost-effective preamp, the MIC100 excels in versatility with its phantom power, phase inversion, and gain control features. However, pushing the limiter and tube too hard may result in artificial warmth, and the manual lacks detail on the limiter's operation. Despite minor drawbacks, it offers excellent value for typical recording tasks.

Good for the money

I had this years ago. Lots of gain, sounds harsh and cold, but for the price is still better than average 99 dolar preamp interface.
