EX-SD Review: The value vs. quality ratio is pretty decent, and I could... | D'Angelico | Electric Guitars | Reviews @ Ultimate-Guitar.Com

The D'Angelico EX-SD impresses with its vintage charm and versatility, delivering rich, creamy tones through its Kent Armstrong humbuckers. Its unique design and quality build make it stand out, offering the feel of a Les Paul with its own twist. The guitar's action and finish are praised, with the chambered body providing comfort for extended sessions. While it lacks a split-coil option, the EX-SD's reliability, durability, and included deluxe hardshell case make it a solid choice for stage and practice. Overall, it’s a great entry into the solidbody market for D'Angelico.

D’Angelico’s EX-DC and EX-SD | Vintage Guitar® magazine

vintageguitar.com

D’Angelico's EX-SD impresses with its exquisite craftsmanship and timeless appeal. With a carved flamed maple top and mahogany back, it delivers both aesthetic and tonal brilliance. The guitar offers excellent sustain, powerful pickups, and a balanced sound spectrum. While the cherry finish on the EX-DC may obscure its beautiful wood grain, the EX-SD's black finish complements its gold hardware elegantly. Both models exhibit great playability, staying in tune even with heavy string bends. The EX-SD is a standout for its versatile tones, making it suitable for jazz, blues, and rock. Overall, these models provide exceptional value, combining stunning looks with top-notch performance.

I really like the D’Angelico solidbody EX-SD. It’s got a wicked feel for my vibrato. I also have a ’67 Gibson ES-335 with a Bigsby. It’s got a sweet sound. My vibrato is much cleaner when I don’t use pedals, and the D’Angelico lends itself to getting a sweet warm tone, and it doesn’t sound processed.
