Features and functionality

    Source
  • Guitar style tuners are under-geared for bass strings, affecting tuning stability.

    Source

    Source

Setup and maintenance

  • It's reported that Longhorn basses are factory-wired in series, affecting tonal versatility when pickups are soloed.

    Source

    Source
  • Successfully used in rock, punk, and blues genres, showcasing versatility within vintage sound niches.

    Source

Comparisons

  • The Longhorn is compared to Rickenbacker for its sound quality and to the more traditional Shorthorn for those apprehensive about its aesthetics.

    Source
  • Often compared to the Hofner for its early 60s vintage sound, but lacks the depth of a P bass.

    Source
  • The unique scale and string spacing of the Longhorn differ significantly from typical short scales, requiring special strings and making it less versatile than a Squier Bronco or Ibanez TMB30.

The Danelectro '58 Longhorn bass impresses with its affordability, playability, and tonal flexibility, making it a strong option for bassists mindful of both style and budget. Overall, this reissue of the original short-scale model is a well-rounded instrument that offers great value for the price.

positive

Danelectro Longhorn Bass

guitarinteractivemagazine.com

The Danelectro Longhorn bass is a quirky throwback that delivers a surprisingly rich tone from its budget-friendly build. Its Masonite body and vintage burst finish draw attention, while the 'lipstick' pickups offer a versatile sound palette. Though the fixed bridge saddle can challenge intonation past the 12th fret, this isn't a dealbreaker for its intended casual, fun use. Perfect for punk or pop bassists who prioritize personality over precision, the Longhorn is a playful, iconic choice that doesn't skimp on sound or style.

Danelectro Longhorn (1996 purchase)

"Hmph, I'm sorry for all of you who are covered in scars, but please look at my body covered with stars.Since Seiji likes Linkley, I thought until recently that he would take care of me for the rest of his life. However, he recently started a gauze drummer and a noise unit called "Jet Himiko."In that unit, he carries three guitars, and one of them is me. I'm sure they're using it because I look cool, but it's a big nuisance. If you ever get a scratch on my body, I'll hate you for the rest of my life."
