Best all-in-one bass preamp with MIDI. Just be sure to skip the compressor and use your own.

I've always been a big fan of Adam Nolly Getgood's bass tone - that signature grindy, djenty bass tone that supports the high-gain metal guitars. In the past I used to use the Alpha Omega Ultra to try and achieve those tones; however, I quickly realised that the pedal was starting to sound rather harsh.

Enter the Darkglass ADAM. It's packed with a lot of features and honestly, I've found far better bass tones with this pedal. Distortions 1 and 2 work great for mid-gain and metal bass tones, and the clean tones from the ADAM actually sound not too bad. In addition, with the latest firmware 1.6 update, Darkglass has significantly improved the noise gate and added in a BBD-style chorus effect into the pedal as well.

Tracking with the ADAM was a breeze. I've spent less time trying to correct the bass tones, and more time making music. The only complaint I have with this pedal is the compressor - I'm not a fan of the parallel compression that Darkglass tried to make work with this pedal. If it's the only thing you have to work with, then it'll get the job done just barely, but there are far better options out there, such as the MXR Bass Compressor or Origin Effects Cali76.

I also recommend that you use third party cab IR's. I use the Ownhammer Ampeg SVT-10 CUT IR with this pedal, and it sounds great - clear and sounds aggressive with a ton of definition on tap.

If you want an all-in-one solution for your bass tones, then take a serious look at the Darkglass ADAM. I did, and ever since then I sold the ISP Decimator II and both of my analog Darkglass preamp pedals and haven't looked back since.
