    Source
  • The pedal's sound is highly reactive to input levels, with noticeable tonal changes at different dB settings, especially around -6dB.

Mods and upgrades

  • Using an octave pedal (like Octamizer) before the Woolly Mammoth creates a powerful synth bass effect; experimenting with sub-octave settings is recommended.

    Source

    Source
  • DIY enthusiasts can explore numerous kits and PCBs available for building their own Woolly Mammoth, leveraging its uncomplicated circuit for customization.

    Source
  • The Mastotron is described as a descendant of the Woolly Mammoth, offering more versatility with an added impedance knob for compatibility with active pickups or preceding pedals.

    Source
  • The Cuvave Fuzz is a budget-friendly alternative, closely following the Woolly Mammoth circuit but missing the 'pinch' dial, with resistor variations affecting sound significantly.

    Source

Value and pricing

  • The Nobsound Little Bear BS1 is highlighted as a cost-effective substitute, capturing the signature wooly-velcro-pinched fuzz sound of the Woolly Mammoth.

My copy of Woolly Mammoth

I have a copy of the famous Woolly Mammoth made by a friend and designed by me. We chose the name "Fuzzy Muerte" because of the draw (a pin-up of El Dia De Muertos). The sound is the same as a Woolly Mammoth with the "Wooly" sound. I don't use it a lot 'cause the output level... Now I prefer to use a Big Muff PI.

Fun, cool pedal

A kind of stripped-down version of the Fuzz Factory, this pedal is used a lot by bassists, for a modern, tight, gated fuzz with more than one possible sound. Great low-end (even sub-bass frequencies pass through). When using large amps, mine just has a slightly weaker output than the bypassed signal, which is a shame.

A fuzz tsunami

Works on guitars and basses. Crazy tones but not easy to handle. The Pinch control gives a synth kinda waveform.

Wooly

want that fuzz? well how about wool? A lot warmer than the usual fuzz which just tickles your ear in the right way. Wrap yourself in wool ;)
