Critic Reviews

Dubreq’s touch-powered Stylophone Gen R-8 synthesizer is available now

engadget.com

The Stylophone Gen R-8 synthesizer delivers a retro charm with modern versatility, featuring an all-analog circuit and an impressive array of sound-shaping options. Its larger control surface allows for expressive finger playing, moving away from the traditional stylus. However, at $349, it faces stiff competition from alternatives like the Arturia MicroFreak, which offers similar touch sensitivity and a more flexible sound engine. While purists will appreciate its subtractive signal chain, the limited first run of just 500 units may create urgency. Overall, it’s a captivating option for those drawn to its unique interface and gritty tones, but not without considerations.
