Owner Insights

We analyzed real musician discussions from forums and Reddit to find what players love, question, and tweak about Fender Mike Dirnt Signature Precision.

Features and functionality

  • The early 2000s Mike Dirnt signature bass originally came with a Badass II bridge, which was replaced by a Fender Himass bridge in later Roadworn models.

    Source
  • The Squier Mike Dirnt Signature Bass uses a 0.068 capacitor, while the Fender version uses a 0.05, though the tonal difference is minor.

    Source

Mods and upgrades

  • Owners often consider adding a Badass II bridge to newer models for enhanced performance, as it was a stock feature in the original release.

    Source
  • Swapping the Squier's stock pickup with a high-quality $80-$150 pickup significantly enhances the tone and overall playability.

    Source
  • Experimenting with different capacitor values, such as a .01 instead of .047, can subtly reshape the tone and is easily reversible.

    Source
  • Some enthusiasts suggest that aftermarket mods like pickup and bridge swaps, and even a neck swap, can elevate the Mike Dirnt Signature beyond its stock capabilities.

    Source

Comparisons

  • There's a noted preference for the original signature model's bridge setup over the newer Roadworn version, due to the unique characteristics of the Badass II bridge.

    Source
  • The way the capacitor is connected in both the Squier and Fender models does not affect the sound, as all connections effectively ground the same.

    Source
  • The Fender Mike Dirnt Signature P-Bass is often compared to the Player Precision Bass, with some questioning if the $700 price difference is justified given similar build origins.

    Source

User experience

  • Owners find the Squier Mike Dirnt Signature Bass to be an excellent platform for upgrades, especially in terms of pickups and bridge modifications.

    Source
  • One user highlighted the aesthetic appeal of the bass, noting that paying extra for the design can be worth it if it brings joy and inspiration.

    Source

Use cases and applications

  • It's noted that the bass can inspire play and creativity, with owners finding it worth the investment if it enhances their enjoyment and practice.

    Source

Build quality

  • Concerns about Fender's relicing process are raised, with some finding it unconvincing and potentially distracting, opting to refinish the instrument for personal satisfaction.

Not for Me

I entered into a Fender Pro Sweepstakes and won this. It came in a Fender case, with an autographed pickguard and backstage pass, as well as a letter of authenticity. Unfortunately, the Tele-like block body is incredibly uncomfortable on the ribs, and I don't play with them below the belt. I parted ways with it, and kind of wish I hadn't now just to have it in the collection.

What a great bass to play

I think I remember walking into the guitar shop and seeing it. It was really cool because I am a big green day fan, I liked the sound it produced, it had a bit of that punch that you hear in punk songs which is what I like in basses

Fender Precision bass at a more affordable price

If you haven't noticed I'm quite the fan of all things Green Day. The REAL reason I enjoy this guitar is that it just sounds like quality. I've always enjoyed the "springiness" of the Precision and I feel like it'll take quite a battering. It's big and I'm quite a small guy but I'm used to size and shape that it never really bothered me.

great for bassy bass

this thing is a beast. Its extremely heavy, but simple. Just a volume knob and that's it. Its great if you want to embrace bassyness cause all your getting from this thing is low tones, so if your looking for a versatile bass that can do jazz and low tones don't pick this up. But otherwise its great
