Vintage Bench Test: 1963 Gretsch Duo Jet

guitar.com

The 1963 Gretsch Duo Jet is a charming blast from the past that requires a bit of TLC to shine. It's not in pristine condition—neck binding is missing, pickup rings are snapped, and the headstock has been repaired. The Burns vibrato is finicky, and the tone switch is more miss than hit. Yet, the vintage Filter’Tron pickups deliver a complex, woody tone with a hint of jangle, and the playability is surprisingly enjoyable once you acclimate. It's not for purists or collectors, but with a few adjustments, this guitar can become a gig-ready vintage rocker.
