Owner Insights

We analyzed real musician discussions from forums and Reddit to find what players love, question, and tweak about Hughes & Kettner TM36H Tubemeister 36W Tube Guitar Amp Head.

Features and functionality

  • The Tubemeister TM36H offers versatile power scaling with 0/1/5/18/36 watt options, providing flexibility for different playing environments.

    Source
  • Some users find the footswitch functionality limiting, as it doesn't allow direct selection between all channels, only toggling between clean/dirty and dirty 1/2.

    Source

Setup and maintenance

  • Users report that the stock Chinese tubes can quickly become harsh and brittle, necessitating a retubing for optimal sound quality.

    Source

Comparisons

  • While not matching the tonal quality of a Mesa Triple Rectifier, the TM36H offers an attractive feature set and portability at a lower price point.

    Source

Use cases and applications

  • The TM36H's "hi-fi" modern sound is well-suited for industrial rock, grunge, and blues-oriented rock, though it may not perfectly capture vintage tones for genres like Cream or The Who.

    Source

Mods and upgrades

  • For better tone, pairing the TM36H with a Mesa or Orange cabinet, especially with a V30 speaker, is highly recommended over the thinner-sounding H&K cabs.

This one shines

This little tubeamp is very versatile. A real good piece of German technology. If you switch it on it looks like our christmas tree but with a so much better sound :-)) I especially like the clean tone which is a trademark-sound from H&K amps I think. The rocktone is also very good, it can scream at loud levels.. Has a build in power soak 0/1/5/18/36 Watt and a build in redbox (speakersim). Its really small and handy carrying around to gigs or if you don't like it light enough to throw it out of the window... I play this and my Marshall Plexi. Nothing's missing in my dreams for now...if you're talking about tube-amps.

Good review. Is the sound more Vox ac30 or Marshall 18 watt?

plattino

Thanks! Well, I would say it's more on the Marshall side. Perhaps a little more mids. Has a more "polished" fat and modern rock tone. Hard to describe. Big love for the clean channel! Like a JC120 - but much smoother!

justinsmithson

Ehh....

I would love this amp if it would #1- Have anything else but metal in the lead section, and 2- it DOES NOT take pedals well, especially overdrives.
