Hughes & Kettner GrandMeister Deluxe 40 Review - Premier Guitar

premierguitar.com

The Hughes & Kettner GrandMeister Deluxe 40 is a versatile amp that marries the warmth of tube tones with modern programmability, making it a strong contender for those torn between traditional amps and digital modelers. Its four channels deliver a wide range of sounds, from pristine cleans to aggressive metal, while built-in effects and MIDI control add impressive flexibility. The ability to store and recall presets is a boon for musicians needing quick transitions between varied tones. However, a USB port for easier updates and connectivity could enhance its appeal. Overall, it's a powerhouse for tone enthusiasts seeking both vintage charm and modern convenience.

Very versatile Amplifier.

This amp is perfectly suited for people who like to play different genres, so it's not just another metal-suited amplifier. My favourite feature has to be how the boost feature affects each of the four channels differently, so the boost on the clean channel is perfect for more funk, single-coil sounds while on the crunch channel, the boost helps give your tone a bit more volume/gain. The size of this amp could be great portability wise if someone wants to use this amp for gigs. My only complaint is the built in flanger effect as I can't dial the effect to a subtle enough level, but then I just use the built in chorus instead.

Great practice amp or gigging amp. Built in red box, attenuator, and effects. Crisp cleans. Good crunch.
