Kawai K11 | Vintage Synth Explorer

vintagesynth.com

The Kawai K11 is a 1993 ROMpler that updates the K4 with General MIDI capabilities and a solid keyboard feel. Its standout feature is its piano sounds, which are notably better than its drum kits, partly due to excessive reverb. While it serves well as a master keyboard with its pressure-sensitive keys, the lack of MIDI THRU and limited effects may deter some users. Though it offers decent features for its time, such as dual oscillators and digital filters, the K11's overall audio quality lags behind other synths in its class. A good option for vintage enthusiasts, but not the best on the market.

The Kawai K11 impresses with its 32-note polyphony and 32-part multitimbrality, offering a broad range of sounds that stand out due to its comprehensive synthesis parameters. Its portability is a plus, making it a strong choice for gigging musicians. However, the external power supply and lack of a volume pedal input are notable drawbacks. While the reverb can't be bypassed, the synth's sound quality and features like the built-in Mac interface make it appealing. Despite its lightweight design suggesting a lower price, the K11's unique features justify its cost.
