decent basic stratocaster

although they are starting to get collectors items these Korean made mid-90's are not a must-have. If you do happen to have one or find one very cheap; keep 'm!!! they are very reliable and decent guitars to start with. chances are big you'll need to rewire the hardware, but if you do so you can enjoy them for a long time. They play far more better than most starter strats from other brands.
