Critic Reviews

Manson MA-1 review | MusicRadar

musicradar.com

The Manson MA-1 guitar delivers fantastic build quality and clear pickup sound but is not without its controversies. While the Seymour Duncan humbuckers shine when overdriven, the clean tone leaves much to be desired at its price point. The guitar's built-in Z.Vex Fuzz Factory is a unique feature, adding both character and division, as its aggressive tone can be polarizing. Despite its sleek design and smooth playability, the absence of fret markers might deter some players. This guitar is best suited for those who enjoy pushing sonic boundaries, yet its divisive nature requires a "try before you buy" approach.

Jamie Finch is seen using a Manson MA-1 Evo Guitar in the music video for "Not Enough," particularly at the 3:01 mark. Notably, Finch’s guitar appears to have either a prototype or a retrofitted MIDI controller, as it features a TOM bridge rather than the hard tail bridge typically used by Manson for guitars with built-in MIDI controllers.

In an Instagram post from January 2021, Finch mentioned that he uses a Psychopaf PF-1 for the bridge pickup instead of the standard Seymour Duncan JB that comes with the MA-1 Evo. Additionally, Finch's guitar has a rail style humbucker in the neck position, which can be identified as a Seymour Duncan Cool Rails, as confirmed by an Instagram post in June 2019 and a MusicRadar review of the MA-1 Evo from September 2014 where the standard pickups are listed.
