Mesa Boogie TriAxis Review - King of The Rack Preamps!

cigilovic.com

The Mesa/Boogie TriAxis Guitar Preamp is hailed as a versatile, powerful unit that captures the essence of classic Boogie tones. With its broad spectrum of sounds, it's described as an "encyclopedia of Boogie tones" and a must-try for any serious guitarist. The digital controls and MIDI functionality make it an advanced piece of gear for its time, offering ease of use and extensive programmability. However, being a vintage piece, potential buyers should be cautious of cosmetic and functional issues that may arise due to age. Despite this, the TriAxis is lauded for its familiar and robust sound palette, making it a nostalgic yet formidable addition to any setup. Overall, it's praised for its tonal excellence and remains a highly recommended preamp for both collectors and players.

Mesa/Boogie Triaxis Programmable Guitar Tube Preamp & Simul-Class 2:Ninety Tube Power Amp – MusicPlayers.com

musicplayers.com

The Mesa/Boogie Triaxis Guitar Preamp is hailed for its exceptional versatility and rich Mark-series tones. With MIDI controllability and memory for up to 90 tone settings, it offers a vast tonal palette that includes everything from vintage Boogie sounds to modern prog metal. When paired with the Simul-Class 2:Ninety power amp, it delivers unmatched stereo power and depth. However, the interface can be tedious, especially when programming switch settings, and the recording outputs are outdated. Despite these minor flaws, the Triaxis remains a beloved piece of gear for its authentic tone and flexibility, making it a worthy investment for serious musicians.

Mesa Boogie Triaxis Review

guitarmasterclass.net

The Mesa/Boogie Triaxis Guitar Preamp is a tonal powerhouse, delivering exceptional high-gain and clean tones with remarkable dynamic response. Its intuitive front panel layout ensures easy access to EQs and other controls, making it user-friendly even for those new to preamps. However, the open tube design may concern some users about potential damage if not handled carefully. Despite its steep price, the Triaxis offers versatile sound shaping capabilities, justifying its cost for serious musicians.

Mesa Boogie Triaxis

I have it in a rack with Mesa Boogie Simul class 2 Ninety power amp. This is a classical combination.I use it mostly in studio.I control it with Abacus midi controller or MusicomLab Mk4. The TRIAXIS™ packs five 12AX7’s and 25 years of tube tone heritage into one rack space of pure magic. Eight separate modes deliver the elusive creamy gain of the Mark I, the heralded focus of the Mark IIC+, the scooped Rhythm of the Mark IV™, and a modified British lead mode. But these are just a few of the classic sounds at your fingertips. Our three years of research produced a patented technology which preserves in every nuance and detail the exact audio elements which made these classic sounds in the first place. The digital circuitry is forced to serve—not dictate the tone.

Each control’s up and down keys work much like an old style knob...all parameters are displayed and active all the time. That means no scrolling to find your Treble on the gig. You don’t have to wonder how your Bass and Mid are set, you can see them from across the stage.

You can store your favorite sounds into 90 user presets and these can be mapped to any of the 128 midi program locations. The TRIAXIS is an arsenal of the most powerful guitar tones available in the world today!

"For the solo CD and first 2 SymX CDs - the only amps I had, at that time, were a Marshall JCM800, Fender M-80, a Mesa/Boogie recording pre-amp. By the third CD ( Divine Wings ), I had bought the Tri-Axis and for some of the solos, I used a Rockman Compressor/Sustainer as a preamp ( in front of the Marshall...if I remember correctly ) - but only on that CD - thus - the 'Rockman-esque' tone on some of those solos. I always like to experiment and try out new things - different pre-amps, cabs , mic placement, etc."

There is a lot of live bass on the record as well. "We used a five-string Fender jazz deluxe, which is a really good-sounding solid instrument, and it was all recorded through the Line 6 Bass Pod," says Vrenna. “We did some direct stuff with the guitar, but we used the Mesa Boogie Triaxis. That one is pretty awesome for direct I/O".
