Malcolm Holmes (drums and general hitting-things) recently bought a rather large Sonor kit. Yes, he got a deal from them. "I thought well, the band's got far too much money, might as well spend a bit of it," he explains. Sonor kits are great for live work, this endorsee finds, praising their big, deep, powerful qualities in this respect. Drum companies seem keener than most on doing deals, don't they? Mal agrees, mentioning the Japanese makers as especially eager and pointing out that their government finances such activities. Sonor, a Germany company, dont't give kits away, however, so he settled for trade price, less a bit. "And a T-shirt," he adds. "I met this drummer who'd been down to the trade fair and he'd got a deal with Tama. They'd given him this huge 45-million-drum pink kit. That's what he came away with from the trade fair. I got a Sonor hat and a Sabian T-shirt." Ahhh.
Arsen Grigoryan is shown using a Sonor Drum Kit in an Instagram post, where he mentions practicing to enhance his recording skills.
In the 2019 Bundeswettbewerb Gesang concert video, Levent Gieger plays a Sonor Drum Kit.
"My main acoustic kit is a Sonor. For the tour I didn't use any electronic stuff. The PPG keyboard played many of the sequences and I had to use a pair of headphones on stage so that I could hear the timing. We wanted to play the long version of Welcome To The Pleasure Dome, but on the album it has all these overlapping sequences and there was no way we could play that live, so we had to use a backing tape for that track."
"We're still experimenting with the drum sound in here especially because of the height. I just use a Sonor Lite kit with piezo triggers feeding an Akai S1000. Then there's an Octapad, all of which I put through a Seck 122 12-channel mixer. The sounds are a mixture of my own samples and percussion. Sometimes I'll trigger drum loops manually rather than have them sequenced."
