it does its job and does it well
This is a downsampling VST plugin AKA bitcrusher. Thank you Trent Reznor for reducing the bit-rate of your samples/tracks so frequently in the 90s that now there are plugins for the job. Before you popularized the technique it was a real pain in the butt to do, but now you made it so ubiquitous and cool that there are a bevy of free plugins that do it. TAL has arguably made the best freeware downsampler out there. The addition of a low and high shelving EQ as well as an extra knob for white noise is really cool. I really like to use this across a drum bus with samples to get an emu emulator sound going.
