Critic Reviews

Yamaha P200

soundonsound.com

The Yamaha P-200 impresses with its excellent "real piano" feel, coupled with a sensible selection of high-quality sounds and built-in speakers. It's an ideal pick for traditional musicians seeking an accessible entry into MIDI, or performing keyboardists needing a solid all-in-one solution. However, its cumbersome size and weight, along with a simplistic MIDI spec, could be limiting for studio programmers. Despite lacking aftertouch transmission, the P-200 remains a powerful performer, designed by musicians for musicians, and is likely to be a popular choice for those prioritizing playability and sound quality over advanced MIDI capabilities.

"One of the key points in choosing a master keyboard is whether or not it has space to put different objects on top of them (or, well... it is for me, since I put things like computer displays and keyboards on them). Also, I was searching for a keyboard with a key touch close to that of a real piano, and I thought that the P-200 came pretty close. Of course, it's no match for a REAL piano, but out of all the keyboards in this price range, I thought this was the best model for me."
