Owner Insights

We analyzed real musician discussions from forums and Reddit to find what players love, question, and tweak about Yamaha Rydeen Drumset.

Features and functionality

  • The Yamaha Rydeen does not come with cymbals; buyers should plan to purchase cymbals separately.

    Source
  • The Stage Custom provides more finish and size options, offering greater customization compared to the Rydeen.

    Source
  • Cymbals should be sandwiched between two pieces of felt to prevent direct contact with the wing nut and improve durability.

    Source

Build quality

  • The stock heads on the Rydeen are Chinese Remo heads, which are considered just okay but easy to tune.

    Source

Value and pricing

  • Buying a used Rydeen for around $200 is considered great value for the money, as it includes decent Yamaha stands.

    Source
  • A purchase of $500 for a Rydeen with I series Zildjian cymbals and hardware is considered slightly high but still reasonable given the complete setup.

    Source

Comparisons

  • The Yamaha Rydeen is slightly better than its competition in the same low-end tier but is also a bit pricier.

    Source
  • The Stage Custom offers better quality wood and shell hardware, providing a significant upgrade from the Rydeen, which is positioned as an entry-level kit.

    Source

User experience

  • Owners mention that tuning the Rydeen is straightforward, even with stock heads, making it beginner-friendly.

    Source
  • Users suggest that while both the Rydeen and Stage Custom are suitable for beginners, the Stage Custom allows for a longer-term use without the immediate need for an upgrade.

    Source

Setup and maintenance

  • Proper tom positioning involves raising them off the bass drum and angling them closer together for ergonomic playability.

    Source
  • A new hi-hat stand may be necessary if the top hat is set too high, risking potential damage.

    Source
  • Owners recommend placing a rug or non-slip mat under the kit to prevent movement, especially the floor tom.

    Source
  • Ride cymbal placement should be low and close to the floor tom for ergonomic access, avoiding accidental hits.

Yamaha Rydeen Series Kit review | MusicRadar

musicradar.com

Yamaha's Rydeen Drumset offers an impressive starter kit with excellent hardware, making it a top choice for beginners. Priced well, the kit features durable poplar shells, a variety of finish options, and professional-grade 600 series hardware. The standout is the hardware's quality, with sturdy cymbal stands and ergonomic designs enhancing playability. However, the shells are decent but not exceptional, and the kit's stock heads will likely require upgrading. Despite minor drawbacks, the Rydeen delivers a solid, thunderous performance, proving itself a strong contender in the budget drum set market.

Yamaha Rydeen Kit: This Entry Point Got A Facelift - DRUM! Magazine

drummagazine.com

Yamaha's Rydeen drum kit impresses with its upgraded features and competitive pricing, making it a strong contender for beginners. The 6-ply poplar shells offer solid sound quality, and the hardware package is lightweight yet sturdy, with thoughtful additions like double-braced stands. While the entry-level cymbals may not satisfy seasoned drummers, they are a good starting point for novices. The kit's aesthetic appeal is enhanced by six attractive finishes. Minor drawbacks include the lack of suspension mounts on toms and the slightly lightweight bass drum pedal, but overall, the Rydeen delivers exceptional value and performance for its price.

Sleek

This kit came to me through my drum teacher. He had already used it for numerous projects and gigs before I possessed it. The shells resonate really well and have a dark sort of tone to them. I love the colours and the fact that the natural wood shows on the rim of the bass drum is a nice touch.
